The Schizoid Man

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: The Prisoner: The Schizoid Man
Extensive brainwashing is used to alter Number Six's most basic behavioral traits. He is told that he is Number Twelve and is given the assignment of posing as Number Six's double. He must somehow convince his captor, and himself, that he is the real Number Six.

Wasn't this a Next Gen episode?

The one with Doctor Ira Graves, Data's "grandpa."

If Number Six had been more quick-thinking, he could have said at the end of this episode, "I meant that I would give Susan your regards the next time I visited her grave."

That wouldn't have worked, as Number Two had said in the cart that he had spoken to Susan a month ago, so Number 6 had already been caught out.

There's a sight I would love to see- Patrick Stewart going "I am not a number- I am a free man- AND THERE ARE FOUR LIGHTS!!!!"

LOL. Patrick Stewart might, indeed, make a good replacement for Patrick McGoohan as Number 6 should a Prisoner movie ever actually be made.

Be seeing you.

Did Allison really have ESP? Maybe the whole thing was part of the deception, and she never had a mental link with No. 6 at all. That may be obvious to some, but it never occurred to me before.

The Village authorities took No. 6’s real characteristics away from him (hair color & style, mole, smoking preference, etc.). They were changed and the double took on those qualities. OK, so why was the double wearing a white blazer and the numbered badge, both of which are uncharacteristic of No. 6? And even if for some reason, they wanted to say, “Number 6 wears a white blazer,” that’s still a problem. If No. 6 is supposed to impersonate No. 6, why wouldn’t No. 2 tell him to put on a white blazer to match? It might be confusing to the audience, but one of them could put on the white blazer after the initial confrontation to differentiate himself or something.

When No. 2 and No. 6 walk into No. 6’s cottage, the door hits a cabinet. That must be annoying. Of course, that may be one of the things that was changed around to mess up No. 6.

No. 6 probably remembered the nail bruise too late, but did the double have one?

No. 6’s calendar says Feb. 10 when the picture is taken. Later, when he is starting to figure out the ruse, his calendar says Feb. 10. Shouldn’t it be the next day? Possibly he and Allison were up late and No. 6 is very diligent about changing his calendar, but there’s supposed to be a curfew. The creators apparently intend for the dates to be accurate (accounting for the ruse, that is), but they shouldn’t be the same.

How come somebody wasn’t watching No. 6 as he found the filament in the cigar, shocked himself, practiced his right-handedness, etc.? Even if No. 2 was busy, someone should have been observing, especially with this plot underway.

Why in the world would Curtis tell No. 6 his password? Just because No. 6 was going to beat him up? Some spy he is.

Why did Rover kill Curtis? Even if Rover thought Curtis was the real No. 6, why would Rover kill No. 6? He’s too valuable, as they keep saying. My guess is that Rover knew which was which (even though No. 2 didn’t) and once No. 6 said the password, Rover knew Curtis had violated orders and needed to be punished. But why didn’t Rover tell No. 2 that No. 6 was the genuine article? For that matter, can Rover even talk or communicate?

Why did No. 6 report to No. 2 as ‘Curtis’? Shouldn’t he have used a number? That’s what they do here, you know. Unless No. 6 wasn’t sure of the number.

In this episode (and IIRC, only this one) the "shingles" on the signpost in front of No. 6's cabin had the "private" one on top, with "6" on the bottom. In all other episodes, the "6" was on the top, and the "private" was on the bottom.
