Was just thinking about Episode I and the battle in the palace. I was thinking about the how the door to the throne room came slamming down. Do the doors in Star Wars seem dangerous to anyone else? I mean these things come down like they could take off your head. Why do you need your doors to move this quick (besides the cool factor and maybe an emergency bulkhead)? I keep thinking someone is going to be flattened out like a pancake if they didn't step back far enough.
Maybe they are like elevator doors where they won't close if something is in the way.
I'm a lot curious about what would happen you to tryed to go through after it started closing. I don't think you would want it to hit you and bounce back like an elevator at the speed it travels.
And why don't the ever-present blast doors close that fast?
Don't forget the door to the control room the C3P0 and R2D2 were stuck in in ANH. Also from ANH, the door to the bridge that Luke&Leia had to swing over.
Actually, the door to the Bridge *does* close that fast. It opened slowly because Luke jammed it by blasting the control panel.
The doors on the Death Star in ANH made me think. The famous nit of the stormtrooper hitting his head on the open door suggests that these doors really are dangerous! Just waiting for the doors to slice half of someone's feet off next! (No, not really - that's too cruel.)
