I like watching movies. Just about anything entertains me. Sometimes I watch a trailer commercial and I'm interested in a story, but I'm also patient and willing to wait until it is available to rent or stream. A few movies I want to see in a theatre on opening weekend such as Marvel. It is rare that I make the effort to see a movie on the opening night. Star Wars is one of those rare movies. It feels like a lifetime that I've been waiting for Episode IX (9). When The Empire Strikes Back first came out, people were surprised to discover that it was Episode V (5) instead of Part II (2). Rumor quickly spread that there would be nine episodes. Three movies would show events prior to the original Star Wars, and three more movies would continue the story after Return of the Jedi. Lucas would later deny that there would be an Episode VII (7), but then he sold the rights to Disney. We may never know how he wanted the story to continue but he also authorized writers to continue the saga. I have a trilogy of books by the author Timothy Zahn that the movies ignore. I have enjoyed what actually made it to the screen, but I do wish events occur after Zahn's trilogy. As for the newest movie, there are mixed reviews. I realize critics are doing their job, and I also realize I'm a fan boy. But I do believe they are hating on it because they liked The Last Jedi when many fans did not, and the critics need to vindicate themselves. People are saying the movie is convoluted and undid what happened in TLJ. Others who didn't like the previous movie are glad if it is undone. I say this movie further explains what was revealed and builds upon the saga. I will admit that some parts were predictable, but there were also surprises. It was also said that the writers did not have a master plan for the new trilogy. Probably not, but I don't think Lucas had everything planned out for the original trilogy. He wanted the galaxy to be lived in and teased the Clone Wars. But Luke and Leia were not twins until they were. From this point I will have spoilers from the new movie.

Consider yourself warned.

"Just when I thought you couldn't get any dumber, you go and do something like this... and totally redeem yourself!"

I didn't mind Rey being nobody. I had a theory that when Ren and Rey spoke about her parents in TLJ, she knew it to be true through the Force. Just as Luke knew Vader was his father and just as Leia always knew Luke was her brother. I did wonder why Rey just didn't use the Force to look into the past since Yoda told Luke it was an ability. Thing is Rey didn't want to know the whole truth. "You can't handle the truth!"

I still wonder how Palpatine survived the Death Star shaft and later crash. I guess he used the Dark Side to protect him.

I was actually surprise by Hux. Just saying.

I knew C-3PO would return, and guessed that Chewy would.

Missed opportunities: In TLJ, Ren hinted that the past of both good Jedi and bad Sith would be done away with. Replaced by a new order that is a balance. That didn't happen (yet).
Also I would have liked to have seen Rey get a kyber crystal and make a lightsaber.

The one thing that got me about The Force Awakens, and the new trilogy in general, is that the final events of Return of the Jedi were undone: Luke would train new Jedi and the galaxy had peace except for some holdovers trying to take over. People make the case that TFA is the same as A New Hope, except that the new trilogy of Rey, Fin, and Poe were never together. The Rise of Skywalker is not a copy of Return of the Jedi, but it does have a similar ending: The bad guy was converted but then died, Palpatine was killed (again), the galaxy had peace, and I assume Rey will train new Jedi. It took decades to get to the same point, but now with different characters.

Either Abrams messed up or Palpatine is an excellent liar.

He tells Kylo Ren to kill the girl (Rey)

But when Rey is standing before Palpatine, he tells her "I didn't want you killed, I wanted you brought here to take the throne"

(Or something like that)

ANNOYING BIT: (SPOILER)

Rey's "I quit" and "I'm back" attitude.

It's played out too many times

Palpatine managed to disable an entire fleet just using Force lightning?

As George R.R. Martin said “I think if you put too much magic in your fantasy it overwhelms the plot, and it starts to make the plot nonsensical. If you do have a sorceress or a wizard who can speak a word and wipe out an army, why would you even assemble an army?”

Weren't the new SDs in the atmosphere, and they needed the beacon to get into space?
