011204 - P.R. Discussion and Casting

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: L.I.C.C.: Phantom Returns (And Other Random Chaos): 011204 - P.R. Discussion and Casting
By Brian Webber on Tuesday, December 04, 2001 - 5:36 pm:

I'm starting a new cybersoap entitled P.R.

Basically, it's a spoof of the hit medical drama ER, but instead of doctors, the characters are Public Relations agents, also known as Publicists. This dramady follows the trials and tribulations of PR agents;

Harvard Spinelli, Malcom Lynch, Vinnie Flanagan, and Trish Hughes.

The soap will star me, Brian Webber, as the Rocky & Bullwinkle-inspired Narrator.

The other characters, their personalities, and ages are up for grabs.

I'll be starting the board soon, but until then, take the time to learn the rules.

*No robots or aliens (although the actors these PR boys (and girl) represent can play them in movies they can talked into).

*No guest appearences from other Cybersoaps (these even includes my other soap Archangel)

*No sudden and abrupt shifts in personality. A charcter who is liberal in Chapter can't suddenly become Conservative in Chapter three.

*All celebrities, real and otherwise, are NOT to become main characters, supporting roles only.

*Mocking celebrities you don't like is encouraged, but keep it clean.

*My job as Narrator is basically just to throw in random cliched plot twists with posts such as, "But Vinnie wasn't able to finish the question as one of his clients, looking tired and drugged up, ran in screaming for help." Stuff like that.

OK, that' all for now. Let's start casting.

Are you sure it's a wise decision to create another RPG? The LICC seems to be the only one with any real staying power, except for Archangel (which has one single poster forming the backbone - indeed the entire skeleton, so to speak) and Bizarro World, which is a LICC spinoff and often has long breaks. Take a look at the others:

Phantom Returns/New Menace: Pre-LICC. Not really an RPG, and no-one really uses it any more. The decline began when LICC got its own board.

James and rachgd's soap opera: Succesful early on in its pre-LICC days, but after a while all the plot threads had been wrapped up, and James had never really wanted to post. There were only three regular posters and it was just a pale copy of LICC, so it ended.

Port Mike: Once KAM, Megan and Matthew Patterson stopped posting it fell apart, and people preferred the other boards, so hardly anyone posts there any more.

The Knights of Silvercliff: Successful to begin with, but now much less so, with only a smattering of posters, and large breaks often. Once the story is over it will probably end. I appear to be the only person willing to post regularly.

Dungeon, Dragon, Demon, Damsel and Smith: Not really an RPG, more a fantasy Phantom Returns with a vague plot. Most people don't consider it worthy of attention, so it only gets a post or two every so often.

Jack Mightee: Everyone is too involved with other things to post, even from the beginning. Its creator lost interest, and everyone seems at a loss as to what's supposed to happen next.

Sprinkle Boy: Prematurely seperated from New Menace, so there were very few (2 or 3) regular posters. A LICC crossover sped it up a bit, but after that it just went downhill. It has now been moved to another site.

People just aren't prepared to devote themselves to yet another role-playing board when they have so many to concern themselves with. There have also been many other boards created which aren't even worth mentioning because they never lasted longer than a few days. Also, a new Phantom Returns seems to have been set up on the board for The Prisoner.

Hmm. Maybe you're right Paddy.

There were only four people posting (Me, JD, Jon Wade and Nawdle), and I was writing most of the characters. I got burned out. Jack Mightee isn't dead; I'll start posting eventually and we can finish the first episode.
