Netscape vs. Internet Explorer

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: L.I.C.C.: Non-Star Wars (Will Live Forevar): Netscape vs. Internet Explorer
By Joel Croteau (Jcroteau) on Saturday, October 09, 1999 - 10:39 am:

I like Netscape! Let the browser holy wars begin!

By Matthew Patterson (Mpatterson) on Saturday, October 09, 1999 - 11:56 am:

Netscape will always triumph! According to scientific testing, Netscape loads pages in half the time as IE.

By Ed Jefferson (Ejefferson) on Saturday, October 09, 1999 - 1:15 pm:

But Netscape won't let me use my nice mouse wheel! Much as I love Netscape, it does need a decent upgrade sometime.

By Biff B on Saturday, October 09, 1999 - 2:43 pm:

I'm able to use my mouse wheel in Netscape, though not all web pages are compatible.

By ScottN on Saturday, October 09, 1999 - 3:01 pm:

Change your mouse settings...

What I don't like about IE is that I *HAVE* to install it if I want to use Visual Studio.

By Ed Jefferson (Ejefferson) on Saturday, October 09, 1999 - 6:46 pm:

When can you use it?

I can turn it to scroll, but I meant the feature where you click it and get the little

/\
.
\/

then can just move the mouse to scroll up and down.

Scott- I can see why MS do it. It would be a waste of time developing a seperate help system, so they just build it around web pages. And they're hardly going to use Netscape to do it ;-)

I like Netscape and always get frustrated trying to use IE. I wish I could delete it but Windows 98 does wierd things everytime a try. So it eats up harddrive space.

By Ed Jefferson (Ejefferson) on Sunday, October 10, 1999 - 7:32 am:

Anne- 98 uses Internet Explorer as a replacement for Windows Explorer. It's a BAD idea to delete it. You can get some freeware program that changes it back to to the old Win 95 explorer though.

IE is stabler than Netscape... and NEVER update Netscape 4.7 to 5.x or 6.0... it would be a big mistake.

Try Opera, though! Fast AND stable!

By ScottN on Thursday, March 28, 2002 - 10:33 pm:

6.2 is fairly stable.

Also, Mozilla just froze their code tree. The 1.0 release should be within the next week or so.

By Electron on Friday, March 29, 2002 - 6:18 am:

I usually surf with Mozilla 0.9.9 now. It's great, stable and fast. Now, when the big 1.0 is released they'll hopefully remove all the debug code and the reptile will run.

And finally: Many computer viruses simply love IE/OE.
