This show starred Jimmy Stewart as Britt Ponsett (ed. note - I may have the spelling wrong).

If I remember correctly, the spelling varies. I've seen it spelled both `Ponsett' and `Ponsitt' in different catalogs.

This was a good show; too bad it only lasted one season. I guess it was hard for people to take Jimmy `Its a Wonderful Life' Stewart seriously as a gunfighter.

Really? He made a pretty convincing Old West (or Ancient West to TNG fans) character in several movies, IMHO...

I believe the reason it lasted just one season was due to something with the sponsorship of the show.

A question for anyone who knows. In the opening monologue, it seems to suggest that Britt Ponsett was a real person. Was this actually the case?

By The Gunslinger Dressed In Blue on Thursday, January 24, 2002 - 1:38 pm:

No. They just tried to make it seem like it was based on a real person. I'm sort of a western history buff, and I've never heard of a real Britt Ponsett.

I believe he may have been based on a real person, but if he was, then they changed the name.

Google didn't find anything on him except for the radio serial.

Here's a thought. If James Stewart had played Doc Holiday instead of Britt Ponsett, the show could have been called The Sick Shooter.
