I'm partial to The Six-Shooter, but then, I'm a Jimmy Stewart fan. I also like Tales of the Texas Rangers.
Bob & Ray
Mysterious Traveler, as I said before
The Shadow is my favorite. I also like Duffy's Tavern, Fibber McGee and Molly, Jack Benny, and The Green Hornet.
As the Moderator, I should probably reply as well.
Adventure: Escape, The Green Hornet
Comedy: Abbott and Costello, The Great Gildersleeve
Detectives: Johnny Dollar, Dragnet, Nick Carter
Horror, Mystery, and Suspense: The Mysterious Traveler, Suspense, Lights Out, The Whistler
Westerns: Have Gun, Will Travel, Gunsmoke
Guilty Pleasures: The Shadow, Space Patrol
The 2 I liked listening to when were "The Whistler" and "Voyage of the Scarlet Queen".
Just so anyone doesn't think I'm even more ancient than I really am, I should explain that I heard these back in the late 60's when I lived in Germany (my Dad was in the Air Force), on Armed Forces Network.
I also like Sergeant Preston of the Yukon (and his wonder dog, Yukon King!).
I was always partial to the Great Gildersleeve, and of course "Duffy's Tavern," but I was "weaned" on Fibber McGee and Molly...
I used to work for Radio Spirits, which is one of the big re-packagers of Old Time Radio, doing digital restoration of old programs. I cleaned up the whole "Cinnamon Bear" series, which I think is really excellent, and I also worked on the Smithsonian's "All-time Favorites" box set, and really liked the "Whistler" episode "A Law Of Physics" --particularly because the plot hangs on an element that would not even make anyone blink with today's technology--a car phone!
Sorry, I worked on too many "Sergeant Preston of the Yukon" episodes to be able to enjoy 'em any more. "Our Miss Brooks" was pretty nasty too.
I own the Smithsonian "All-Time Favorites" set. Good job, sir.
Adventure: Escape
Comedy: Jack Benny, by far. Phil Harris-Alice Faye is very underrated too.
Detectives: Johnny Dollar. The Philip Marlowes are good too.
Horror: Suspense is the grand-daddy here, although Escape could play the horror game just as (if not more) effectively. Inner Sanctum and Lights Out trail, although I'd rather listen to Inner Sanctum anyday.
