Gourmet Night

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Monty Python And Other British Comedies: Fawlty Towers: Gourmet Night
In an attempt to encourage the well-off members of Torquay into his hotel, Basil hosts a gourmet night, having hired a Greek chef from Andre's restaurant. But things turn nasty when the chef "gets potted" and the only way to save the night involves special trips to Andre's via an uncooperative car in need of a dam' good thrashing.

First and only episode I ever saw, and I quite liked it.

One of the funniest half hours on television. I first saw this when I was young, and laughed so hard it hurt. Some 20 years later, I still laugh just thinking about it.
I heard that a toy company makes a replica of Basil's car, complete with a tiny figure brandishing a tree branch! Has anyone seen or heard of this?

This is a classic show. :)

Good to see you here as well Craig.

Oh, hi, Douglas, and thanks! I wish I could post here a little more frequently, but I haven't seen Fawlty Towers for years, and it turns out I've actually missed some episodes.
I'll lurk around here from time to time (posting if I remember something relevant) until I get the series on DVD.

Wasn't John Cleese married to Connie Booth during this show's production? If so, are they still married?
I always miss the runs of this series that PBS does from time to time. I watched this in first run in the U.S. in the '70's. I heard that Cleese created this series to poke fun at hotels, as he was very irritated with British hotels and their personnel. (Doesn't Cleese have a book or video out called "How To Irritate People"?

No, they divorced years ago. I think he's had another couple of wives since then, both also Americans. I think.

Basil Fawlty was based on the manager of a hotel where the Pythons stayed while on a location shoot.

Andre is the same guy that played Andre in the Pink Panther series (maybe he's the same character?).
