The Psychiatrist

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Monty Python And Other British Comedies: Fawlty Towers: The Psychiatrist
A bronzed Adonis, his secret guest, and a tired Australian traveller spells trouble for a determined Basil... and much bewildered entertainment for a psychiatrist and his wife.

I think this is the longest episode in terms of running time. In any case, this is probably my all-time favourite episode of "Fawlty Towers".

Towards the end of the episode, when Mr. Johnson smuggles his guest out of the room presumably while Basil and Sybil are in Raylene's room "checking the door hinges," wouldn't Mr. Johnson's guest already be spotted by someone tending the lobby downstairs, such as Polly (or even Manuel)? Or would they be too busy checking Mr. Johnson's mother in to notice a lovely blonde sneak by? (Or is this another sly way for Polly to get her own back at Basil for all the past scrapes she'd been roped in to cover up?)

This is a very funny episode, although I was annoyed that the episode was called "The Psychiatrist," and said psychiatrist does very little in episode. Also, this is one of the rare occasions where Basil really isn't doing anything wrong, and that he is quite correct.

Doesn't he grope that Australian woman when he's supposed to be turning on the light in this episode?

I think that's a honest mistake.

My favorite scene is when he confronts the lothario who says the woman he has in his room is his "mother." Basil does a really long, sarcastic monologue--"Lyndon Johnson's mother?" And then, at the VERY second the mother pops out of the room, Basil switches to fawning without missing a beat.

And of course Basil's "headless frog" breakdown at the end of this exchange, just as the Abbots appear. :)

GREAT MOMENT: The girl in the blue sweater bending over the counter....WOW!

This was my favorite of the second series, like I said before, I didn't like it as much as the first series. Also, the Aussie babe was hot and had really great breasts as well! There, I said it. Thank you!

The "walls" of the "hotel" shake a little bit more than usual in this episode.

And exactly when did Mr. Johnson's friend manage to leave the hotel without Basil noticing? For real, I mean? I wonder about that!
