The 30th Anniversary of the show continued with a Brand New Series tonight, featuring Andy Hamilton in the guest slot.
Oh, and by the way, the full-length 30th Anniversary special of the show, broadcast earlier in the year, is apparently going on sale soon. [coughs loudly, someone makes out the phrase "cash cow"]
The latest series (Summer 2003) has been as funny as ever. The Swannee/Kazoo rendition of the James Bond theme on the latest show is one of the funniest things I have heard in a while.
What day and channel is it on, please?
Monday, 6.30pm, BBC Radio 4 FM (repeated the following Sunday at 12 noon on FM). It's on tonight.
My personal highlight of this series so far was hearing Harry Hill singing the words of "The Ugly Duckling" to the tune of Harry Nilsson's "Without You".
Oh well, I caught the last episode in the series...
I see what you mean about Jeremy Hardy being tone deaf.
You should have seen heard Jeremy Hardy play Pick Up Song in a previous series some years ago now - back then the song he had to "sing" along to was The Beatles singing "With A Little Help From My Friends." (What would you think if I sang out of tune...)
I wonder if he ever did Barry Manilow's "Can't Smile Without You" as well? Or, for that matter, Genesis with "I Can't Dance"?
Jeremy Hardy is a poor singer but not as bad as the late, great Willie Rushton. Now he was awful singer.
I still miss him though.
Hee hee. I remember he recorded some Asterix books - he did Cacofonix very well.
That reminds me of a Willie Rushton act.
He sings the Irving Berlin classic "Top Hat, White Tie, and Tails", while performing the actions in the song.
And of course, he gets into a right mess, because all the actions in the song are in the wrong order! Ends up with his shirt of over his jacket, and no trousers.
Rushton: You'd think old Irving would have remembered some trousers...
I always thought Jeremy Hardy was playing the much-more difficult version of One Song To The Tune Of Another - one song to the tune of another with the notes of 5 or 6 songs thrown in at random.
Paul Merton's tone deaf as well, but Jeremy Hardy makes a much better go of not being able to sing though.
Funniest Wille Rushton one was Whiter Shade Of Pale, sung to My Old Man's a Dustman.
What about John Lennon's "Imagine" to the tune of "The Sun Has Got His Hat On"?
Whiter Shade Of Pale, sung to My Old Man's a Dustman?
Imagine sung to The Sun Has Got His Hat On?
Talk about weird combinations!
(I wonder what happens if a contestant doesn't know the words and/or music for the requested songs?)
