A Christmassy Ted (The Christmas Special)

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Monty Python And Other British Comedies: Father Ted: A Christmassy Ted (The Christmas Special)
The very silly feature-length Christmas Special, which first aired during the Christmas of 1996 and has since become a favourite on Channel 4's Christmas schedules (i.e. something to fill in the gaps between the less enlightening stuff on nowadays).

While out Christmas shopping, Ted and Dougal, along with some other priests, becoem trapped in Ireland's largest lingerie department, and through guile and quick thinking, Ted is able to guide the priests to safety. For his efforts and bravery over that incident, Ted is to be given the much-coveted Golden Cleric award - thus giving him an excuse to gloat over his enemies and bask in his moment of glory. But the arrival of the mysterious Fr. Todd Unctious to the Parochial House could spell trouble for Ted's peace of mind as Unctious has his greedy eyes on Ted's newly-acquired award.

One of the names Mrs Doyle suggests when trying to guess Todd Unctious's name is of course The Divine Comedy's (Father) Neil Hannon.

Is this the one that starts with the Ballykissangel dream? Brilliant!

Most of the real sounding names Mrs Doyle mentions are friends of the writers or crew members.

One wonders if 'Todd Unctious' came up with the name before Mrs Doyle made all the guesses, or if he got fed up with the constant guessing and so decided to pick one after a while.
