Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Smallville: Season Two: Redux
Aired: 29 October, 2002

By Lee Jamilkowski (Ljamilkowski) on Friday, July 19, 2002 - 10:38 pm:

This episode was filmed during season one's production, right after Tempest finished filming. Clark's grandfather (Martha's father), who is wealthy, comes to Smallville for a visit; Jonathan is not happy about it and Clark tries to learn about the family history.

Are you sure this is the right episode? That sounds like "Lineage" would be a more appropriate title?

TUE

By Machiko Jenkins (Mjenkins) on Tuesday, October 08, 2002 - 11:21 pm:

'Lineage' is about (in a nutshell) tracing family lines of a Freak Mom, Lana Lang, and possible Lex Luthor. Definitely not this episode.

By Mylan on Wednesday, October 30, 2002 - 3:52 am:

Clark uses his super speed in the pool to rescue the drowning guy. Once more, a bunch of people looking directly in Clark's general area when he uses it, and no one notices. At least, I suppose it can be chalked up to the excitment of the moment.
---
So, the youth-sucking girl... she's been around since long before the meteors fell... Was I not paying attention or did the writers convienently forget to explain what her story was?

By LUIGI NOVI on Wednesday, October 30, 2002 - 11:28 am:

If something like meteors can impart superhuman abilities, then presumably other things can as well. Certainly all of the friends and members of Supe's rogues gallery don't derive their powers and abilities from the same source.

The second time Clark meets with Lana in the episode, when he first tells her about his grandfather, he mentions that his grandparents retired to "Coast City." Cute. Is that anywhere near Jordan? :)

Chloe says that the coroner's initial report stated that the swimmer who died in the teaser died of progeria, but that's bunk. In addition to the fact that progeria doesn't kill in seconds, as Clark says, children with progeria have a distinctive physiognomy that that guy didn't have when pulled out of the pool.

By Brian Webber on Wednesday, October 30, 2002 - 2:08 pm:

Luigi: This is the Smallville coroner we're talking about, not Crossing Jordan. :)

By TomM on Wednesday, October 30, 2002 - 4:25 pm:

Plus it was the initial report. Once they started the autopsy, they would have noticed that it was not a typical progeria-type premature aging. (Or so one would hope.) :)

When watching this episode, I wondered if it was a left-over from the first season. So thanks, Lee, for the scoop. here's what I moticed:

Pete doesn't seem aware of Clark's powers.

Martha doesn't seem to be working for Lionel.

Lionel (now a regular) is nowhere to be seen.

By Brian Webber on Wednesday, October 30, 2002 - 7:27 pm:

Actually I think a dubbed line about Lionel Luthor's paychecks not quite being enough before Martha brings up calling her father was thrown in. It's happened before. Last season's Thrid Watch season finale was originallly filmed as the season opener. After 9/11 it was canned, then later SOME scenes were re-shot, including any that showed the Twin Towers.

By Soupy Man on Sunday, November 03, 2002 - 7:24 am:

The dude who died in the teaser took a few minutes to absorb the kiss of death, but later on when the chick kissed the guy's friend, he died instantly, and rather gruesomely. Why the difference?

By Mylan on Monday, November 04, 2002 - 3:00 am:

Soupy: I'd guess that she could control the amount of "youth" she could absorb. Draining a guy in public would certainly draw attention.
---
So she needs 3 guys to eat every so often. I was under the impression she needed young guys, but she planned on grabbing the principal, so I guess not.

By MythicFox on Thursday, January 09, 2003 - 7:22 am:

Maybe once she's gotten her first meal, the next two guys don't have to be as young, nor do they take as long.

Another sign this is actually a first season episode: it has the first season production credits.
