I'm starting to notice that there seem to be two kinds of "mythology" episodes in Smallville: the kinds that are story development and the kind that are character development. "Legacy" is the story kind, whereas "Truth" is the character kind. That just seems very wrong to me. It shouldn't be right that this seemingly "normal" episode where nothing major in terms of the big picture has changed has FAR more emotional resonance and character development than a "big deal" episode like "Legacy".

Speaking of which, nice to see Pete again, and with some character development to boot! The only problem is he's been gone so long that the second he showed up I knew that they were going to do SOMETHING with him. The need to have him around more often so these little twists will actually SUPRISE someone.

That said, I really liked the whole elevator bit. I honestly didn't know how they were going to have Pete avoid telling Chloe the truth, and was all set to shout at the sight of a cop-out, but no! Avoid telling the truth about something by changing the subject, NICE!

Finally, I don't really like to make story predictions, but I really hope that this episode comes up whenever they finally get around to telling Chloe (hey, sweeps are comming up, just a thought ^___^). Chloe has now experienced firsthand both the consequences of revealing a secret past AND how easy it can be to abuse one's power, which ought to let her understand Clark's secrecy better.

As for nits: Well, I'm sure that the dead horse of Luthercorp Security's all-around incompitence has been sufficiently beaten, so I won't ask how Chloe managed to get out of a facility being locked down (much less get in there in the first place).

I know Chloe's a journalist and stuff, and she's inquisitive, and she's exited about her newfound powers, but COME ON! She's WAY over the top in this episode. Maybe I can buy her running around asking people in the hall about stuff, but I just can't imagine her running that story in the Torch without at least calling the police. (speaking of which, they'd better not forget about the stigma on Chloe in the next episodes or I really WILL shout"cop-out")

I had an intersting thought about the way this whole truth-serum thing works. Nice that it only affects the person Chloe is talking to, and only makes them answer the question she asks. Then again, if it just made anyone close enough to inhale the air Chloe breaths out just start blabbing whatever's on their mind, the show wouldn't really have worked.

Here's another dead horse betting a thrashing: Pete makes a comemnt about Clark "going supersonic". It's quite possible that Pete's just saying that (since I'm pretty sure he's never actually tested to see how fast Clark is going), but other episodes do suggest that Clark goes that fast. So I guess scarring who knows how many people by ratling windows and shaking the walls, not to mention causing a pretty big bang, all the way between Smallville and Metropolis, TWICE (once there, once back), is a price Clark is willing to pay for the pleasure of eating a hot dog.
(Hey, can someone remind me just how long Chloe said the drive would be? iw as going to comment on it, but my mind can't contain numbers for very long)

Why does Lionel seem suprised that he's spilling the beans in the hospital? He's the one who originaly started the project, and at this point he knows that Lex restarted it. Shouldn't he have known this would happen. In fact, why is he even going in there without a gas mask or something? Apparently, it's those little green things that she breaths out that makes everyone tell the truth, so shouldn't some kind of mask make him immuned?

I'm sorry, but this guy has been kicked of the project for years, and now he's HOMELESS, but he STIL HAS THE ANTIDOTE? Come on!

For a minute, I thought that the creators finally thoguht ahead here. Clark takes just long enough to get to the bridge that Chloe's passed out when he gets there. Thanks to that, and her state of mind during the drive there, Clark could say that didn't zip down there and Chloe couldn't disprove it. But then I realized that Clark would have to explain how he got out there ON FOOT. Dang it!

How is it that when Clark is snooping at the Luthercorp lab, Lex is able to sneak up on him? You know, super hearing...

Hey, can someone remind me just how long Chloe said the drive would be?

I believe she said it was six hours round-trip.

Not a nit, but man that was dumb of Chloe to reveal the recorded confession to Lionel so quickly. I knew as she did that it would be gone before she could use it against him.

I thought about that too, but in Chloe's defence, she probobly hadn't had time to figure out just what she was going to do with that recording at that point. Of course, that fixes nothing, just explains it.

I believe she said it was six hours round-trip

So Smallville is about 3 hours away from Metropolis (well, the Kent farm is 3 hours away from the statium, but I doubt that the statium is vert far away from Metropolis) I was going to use this to add to the nit about Lionel's instant trip to the caves in the last episode, but I'll have to go back and remind myself what the heck I wrote back there first.

In the "it would have really been nice department": I kept waiting through the scene between Pete and Clark right after the elevator scene for Clark to thank Pete. I mean, the guy just HUMILIATED himself and ensured some very awkward relations between himself and Chloe for a while now, all for Clark's sake. You'd think at least a LITTLE gratitude would be in order.

Clark bought Pete a hot dog before that game they were going to watch. ;)

Um, guys? Does anyone here have tapes of Truth and/or Memoria? The person I asked to tape Smallville for me while I was away only taped Legacy. I'd be more than happy to pay for both the tape (or simply send it back to you), as well as postage. :)

Anyone? Anyone?
