As reported earlier, Sam Jones is leaving the series at the end of the season. Looks like they're paving the way for Pete's departure with his parents getting a divorce.

As always, there were plenty of Superman references this time out. Johnathan's speech about Clark being the greatest hero or a mild-mannered person was obvious, but I also liked how the red blanket Clark wore resembled a cape as he stood up and walked out of the kitchen.

Chloe's dad wants to buy the Talon? He must not be hurting for money, despite being blacklisted by Lionel Luthor. And I doubt he could get a loan. Lionel bought the bank back in "Tempest."

So, how exactly did the blade give Joshua (is that his name?) these powers? Or more accurately, how did he mannage to get all the powers without the weakness to Kryptonite? If the dagger altered his body in some way, he ought to be vulnerable to its radiation, right? But if his body's the same as it was before, how is it doing this stuff without falling apart under the strain?

Well, Clark believed that the convenient coma Jeremiah went into after their struggle was due to the powers being too much strain on him, so yeah, he probably would have fallen apart. The powers were only meant as a means of temporarily protecting the knife.

OK, honesty time people.

How many of you shouted "Dr. Frasier!"* when the female real estate agent walked into the Talon?

* The agent was played by Teryl Rothery, whose recurring character on Stargate SG-1 was Dr. Janet Frasier who was killed by a Jaffa staff wepaon blast (that episode made me cry).

Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

Not a single SPOILER warning on that?!

If I had a nickel for every time Clark confronted someone with meta-human powers and warned them they were in danger, only to be laughed off and attacked, I could afford a tank of gas.

Clark seemed to believe that the artifact caused Jeremiah's coma. I wonder if it occurred to Clark that his last collision might have caused Jeremiah's injury?

Good episode. I liked the use of the prophecy, the way Jeremiah was immune to the kryptonite (I was skeptical that it would work in the first place, since there was no indication that his physiology had become Kryptonian), the fact that Pete got some story time before being unceremonious dropped from the show (and that the story may serve to actually explain his departure), etc.

---Cute Mythos-Reference:
Jonathan: “You can’t let other people tell you…what to be.”
Clark: “Who do you think I’ll become?”
Jonathan: “I don’t know. You can be the world’s greatest hero…or its most mild-mannered citizen…”

In the shot of Lex and Lionel looking at the blade glowing on the sacrificial altar, it looks like the blade was a separate effects shot, because Lex isn’t really looking at it, but more like he was looking at where he was told to look for the shot.

Obi-Juan: Clark seemed to believe that the artifact caused Jeremiah's coma. I wonder if it occurred to Clark that his last collision might have caused Jeremiah's injury?
Luigi Novi: Why would it, given that Jeremiah was invulnerable at the time?

By Obi-Juan on Thursday, May 13, 2004 - 8:07 pm:

Jeremiah lost his grip on the knife when Clark slammed into him at super-speed. Are you certain that the force of Clark's impact was entirely absored by the powers Jeremiah received from the knife, or is it possible that some of that force jarred Jeremiah enough to cause a brain injury? Jeremiah's power ended abruptly upon breaking contact with the knife, yet Clark's power continued. Just a possibility...
