Gee. We've never seen this before. Students exposed to kryptonite-laced chemical. At least one of them falls in love with Clark or tries to off him.

Clark is the one who notices the odd behavior.

Yeah, we've never seen this episode at least once per season so far.

About the same as the odds of the writers actually not putting in a cutesy reference to the comic book in every other episode…
---This Week’s Reference to the Comics:
Clark: “I’m gonna make time for the Torch.”
Chloe: “Wow. Superhero and journalist. What are the odds?”

Now that’s more like it!

While not on the level of episodes like Covenant, this was a vast improvement over last week’s utterly worthless Meteor Freak of the Week entry. While not entirely original in that it introduces yet another use for kryptonite, at least it served some nice character work with Clark and Lex, Clark and Jonathan, Clark and Chloe, and even Clark and Jason.
---While I was initially ticked that it appeared that we were seeing one more effect of kryptonite, I was a bit relieved when it was revealed that kryptonite didn’t cause the loving devotion, but merely acted as an accelerator for the phenylethylamine, which seemed a reasonable extension of the abilities of kryptonite that had already been established in past episodes.
---The use of the theme of “earning” respect and friendship as a way to address Clark’s acceptance as quarterback, and Lex’s ability to convince Clark to try being friends again was nicely done. Giving Clark his files and showing him the empty lab at the end of the episode wouldn’t mean much if he just moved everything to another location, but giving him the wreckage of the Porsche was an interesting gesture that went a way to showing his sincerity. The retread of Chloe’s feelings for Clark was another unoriginal touch, but it was also nicely done. And I actually liked Lois in this episode, and her teaming with Clark! She was finally not obnoxious, and I enjoyed the slapstick of their attempt to get Lois Mara’s shoulder bag while Clark tried to use his masculine charms to keep her occupied. But does Lois leaving for Metropolis mean that she’s no longer on the show. Figures. I finally end up liking her, and she leaves. And I liked that whereas Clark usually has a huge advantage over everyone, and keeps secrets from them, at the end of the episode it was Jason who did a good job of covering his relationship with Lana when Clark asked him who he meant by “his girl.”

He had just got done seeing last week’s episode, and fainted at the thought of being in another just like it
When Clark shoves Jason out of the way of the quarterback’s buckshot at the end of the teaser, Jason seems to fall unconscious, even though he didn’t hit his head.
And yet, it STILL tastes like water!
Given what she knows about meteor rocks and all things green, you’d think Chloe would know by now to be very suspicious about all things green. I guess the creators had a certain logic on their side because Gatorade is also green, but that stuff is FAR more green than Gatorade, yet Chloe just drinks it.
It didn’t fit into her sock
Why in the world does Mara carry around the formula for the kryptonite-laced phenylethylamine in her SHOULDER BAG??? Does she really need it on hand at all times, outside of wherever it is that she concocts it?
Sure, she’s a journalist. She learned everything she knows from Jason Blair and Dan Rather.
Lois admonishes Clark at the end of the episode not to break Chloe’s heart. Hey, NEWSFLASH, Ace Reporter! He just DID. For the second time. Some journalist she is.

Well, I gotta say, I loved this episode. There were some priceless scenes. And Chloe's freakin' cute as ever. Esp. in nothing but a jersey. Or a cheerleading outfit. Or anything really. Allison Mack is great. I loved the final scene, though I wish Clark would give Chloe a straight answer.

I didn't like to see Lex practically beg for Clark's frienship though. I did like his little "you remind me there are good people" speech. I wish Clark wasn't such an ass though. To Lex and kind of to Chloe.

Good bye Lois. I liked ya, and I look forward to when you return. In November. Or February.

Why would Clark use the heat vision right in front of a bunch of football players and Lois? Doesn't he think that maybe they might notice?

Luigi Novi: Or nothing. :)

JoshM:W hy would Clark use the heat vision right in front of a bunch of football players and Lois? Doesn't he think that maybe they might notice?
Luigi Novi: It's invisible. We the home viewer see the energy signature, not the characters. Also, Chloe seemed slightly disoriented when she was snapped out of it, so even if they coul'dve seen it, it's possible that they wouldn't be able to clearly remember it to the extent that Clark's secret would be threatened.

Well, maybe it's because I had exceedingly low expectations, but I actually liked this episode. I really wish the WB would fire the people in charge of the advertisements though. They somehow always manage to make a forthcoming episode look way worse than it's going to be. I'm pretty sure I've made this joke before, but who's in charge of these things, Karl Rove?

Maybe Smallville High got a good deal on some surplus jugs of Surge, and Chloe couldn't tell the difference until it was too late?

That still leaves Lois, though. Sure, she may not be the most investigative reporter on the planet at the moment, but she still seems to shrug off the EXTREME improbability that the pipe "just happened" to burst right after she said something about it way too easily.

Well, remember, this is the same Lois who, later in life, can be fooled by a simple pair of glasses where superhero costumes are concerned.

The story was well avarage,
what they made of it characterwise was good.
Clarks use of powers was again very stupid.

I don't really agree that the Heatvision
(should be) invisible.
If you look through really hot air
you can see the "fluctuations" caused by it.
Why should Clarks heat be invisible then?
Maybe just harder to notice then the old style supie-lasers.

Still using it infront of everybody...
And breaking that steampipe...
How hot it this? I gues it would have cause severe burns. Why didn'
t Clark just flash the ppl themselv a splitsecond with heat, would have made the deal.

Maybe they should have put some of the lex story in last week so this development had time.

I hope Clark quits football soon.
This story line fits inte the season where he already tried to do it and he had the same arguments with his dad.

I would think if you can score everytime,
its no fun to play.

Instead I would try to find about my abilites
e.g. flying!

Obviously, you're a good bit braver than Clark is (he said flying was scary, remember?)

>I would think if you can score everytime,

Not to mention unethical. I wonder if Clark has ever considered the ethics of the situation, if it is fair for him to play in athletic contest against mere mortals.
Of course, if you took that argument to its logical conclusion, than it would be unfair for Michael Vick to play football, as well.

I thought he would quit the team in this episode actually.

I liked the episode but I wanted to see Clark admit feelings for Chloe...
