Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Smallville: Season Four: Recruit

I hope all the Madame Thoreaux stuff they've been throwing at us this season will lead to a big pay off at some point. Right now, this whole Lana/Jason/Genevieve/Lex/Dead Witch storyline is boring me to tears.

By Biggy on Thursday, February 10, 2005 - 7:40 am:

This was a rare episode. Clark and Lana had no scenes together. Other than the season premiere, when Lana was still in Paris, I don't recall that happening before.

Also, Clark and Lex had no scenes together. The only other time they did that was when Lex was acting out Survivor on the island and Clark was being Kal in the big city.

Frankly, I wish they'd just get rid of Lana and Jason. Their whole storyline has been horrible.

Clark quitting football was so friggin predictable it was annoying.

Didn't see Lois getting booted out of school, however. And really didn't see her moving back with the Kents. What, she can't get a job and her own place? Oh well, at least that means she's likely to be in most of the remaining eps this year.

Nah. Lana's nice to look at. :)

It's apparently tied in with that Kryptonian artifact plotline, in which Lionel and Lex have played a part. That at least explains Lex's interest in the machinations of Mrs. Teague. I'm guessing we can expect big things to come. Personally, I'm hoping this Kryptonian library thing turns out to be the Fortress of Solitude.

Did anyone think that the placement of those goalposts looked a little odd? At the end, when they show the wide shot of the field, they look like they're at the front of the end zone.

I agree anon. I did like the MetU storyline. Not so much the Lana/Jason/Lex thing though. Wherever they're going with that, I hope that it gets interesting before the end of the year.

I liked the Clark/Chloe scene at the end. Clark has to be figuring out that she knows. She's tossing out signs left and right.

So, when did the final scene take place? Did Clark really go all the way back to Metropolis to sadly stand in the football stadium? Was he flashing back? Was it days/weeks later?

I admit, I rolled my eyes when Lois got kicked out of school. They finally figured out a way to get her onto the show. I wonder when she'll leave again. Because something has to change over the next few years if she doesn't recognize him without glasses in the future.

Clark saving Lois in the end...
well, he ASKS the guy whre she is instead of xraying the whole place

then, he walks through the tunnels instead of running fast,
then, instead of just ripping the door open
he heat visions it away....

He can just run there in about 30 seconds, so it's not like it's a huge trouble for him to go back.

How long would it take him to x-ray the entire building, from front to back, top to bottom? And Chloe was in a basement, right? So he'd have to think to look under the street level too.

It was Lois' turn to be the damsel in distress this week, Luigi.

I haven't watched the show since the end of season 3, but I happened to catch this ep on ABC Family. A few thoughts:

It appeared that the drunk football player "attacked" Lois in a secluded area, in the dark. Yet the police knew that Lois kicked him in the gut.

It's become tiring that the "good boy from the small town" turns into the alcoholic party animal the minute they step on a college campus. For a change, it would have been nice if Jeff was a nice guy, showing Clark the ropes.

It's also a giant cliche that the university alumni association will give everything and anything, including money, women and fancy new vehicles with personalized plates, to a recruit who signs with them. A nice twist would have been for Clark to meet a coach who stressed the importance of choosing an academic program to compliment his football program, seeing as Clark must earn the scholarship. But no, he gets a parade at the stadium, a sorority brothel, and a beer bash of a wake. I've already seen Animal House.

No number of credit cards could get Lois bonded out of jail for murder, or even manslaughter.

Jonathan Kent had a really good point when speaking to Clark about drinking on campus- regardless if it can affect Clark (and apparently it can't), if he gets caught, he could lose his chance to attend the university. But Clark drinks at the wake. I guess there were no university officials at the wake. In the owner's box of the stadium. Just players and sorority girls.

Clark goes to Lois' dorm room to tell Lois and Chloe that Jeff is using another student's urine to pass drug tests. They agree to split up and research further. Calrk immediately leaves the room. Without describing the chinese student providing the urine, or dropping his name. But Lois and Chloe find him shortly thereafter.

Jeff attacks Lois with his power in a fairly public area, with students walking in the background. He picks Lois up and dumps her in the back of his truck. Chloe comes out a moment later, sees the truck speeding off, and calls for Lois with no answer. She then meets Clark and tells him that lois disappeared, and that the campus police were no help. These were the same police that bagged Lois for paralyzing another football player, in the dark, with no witnesses?

Clark and Chloe scheme to hack a GPS system and find Jeff's vehicle. The scheme relies on Chloe to hack the system, while Clark "breaks into a vault" at a dealership and steals a PIN code. Yeah, right. Why is Clark being a super-wuss at this point? He always does a super-running-search to find the bad guy.

Chloe has never been coy in the 3 seasons I watched the show. So why is she playing at Clark about his abilities now?

She feels that he'll her about his powers when he is ready. Clark's her friend and if she knows he doesn't want to tell her his greatest secret, she is going to respect it.
