Lucy

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Smallville: Season Four: Lucy

Yawn. Yet another boring cookie-cutter episode where we learn that yet another character from the mythos has been shoe-horned into the series and mutilated to boot. Let’s see, Perry White is a drunk outcast, Bart Allen’s an arrogant pickpocket, Lois Lane’s an obnoxious loafer, and now Lucy Lane is an extortionist criminal and thief. What’s next week? Jimmy Olsen comes to town and reveals that he’s a child molester? Kon-El/Connor shows up and turns out to be working as a male prostitute? John Henry Irons pops into town and is revealed to be a serial killer?

And what the hell is up with Switzerland tonight? I was at a screening we had for The Pacifier this evening, which contains scenes at a bank in Zurich, and now I see tonight’s episode of this show opens in St. Mortiz. What, was there some bizarre conspiracy to implant images of Switzerland in my day today? :)

---NITS & NOTES:
If Lois doesn’t like being called on her cell early in the morning, as she indicates in the teaser, why doesn’t she turn it off at night like I do? It prevents unwanted calls, and saves time on recharging. If she doesn’t want to do that, why not put it on vibrate? Or silent?

At the Talon in Act 1, Clark tells Lex that with the Lanes in the house, the phone lines are consistently busy. How’s this? Both Lois and Lucy were shown using cell phones in the teaser.

In Act 2, why are the lights on at the Talon when Lucy breaks into it at night?

In watching the sequence in Act 3 where Lex takes Lucy and Lois to the warehouse, I immediately thought that Clark was close by, tailing them in case of trouble. Sure enough, there’s trouble, but Clark’s not around when the girls get kidnapped. Instead, we see him at the warehouse, which turns out to be a red herring. Then we see him run back, and run into Lex after the kidnapping. If he took the same route Lex took, wouldn’t he have witnessed the kidnapping? How/why did he overshoot them?

Why was Lex with his security team when coming upon the stopped tractor trailer in Act 4? Shouldn’t he have left this job to them? Or does he have training as a security expert or commando of some kind?

If I were Clark, I wouldn’t stuck around after knocking out Becker and stopping the truck, to make sure the girls got to safety, especially in case Becker woke up sooner than Clark expected. Instead, he just high-tails it out of there, which gives Lucy the opportunity to steal the blue car.

Lex tells Clark in Act 5 that he is merely a product of his father’s breeding, and that his father merely needed an heir, whereas Clark’s parents chose him out of love. Well, all people who choose to become parents do so to have heirs, including adoptive ones. Moreover, the Kents didn’t exactly “choose” Clark. (I am reminded of an early series promo where Jonathan tells Clark, “We didn’t choose you Clark. You chose us.”) True, Lex doesn’t know where Clark came from, but even among normal adoptions, do parents really choose their kid from a large group, based on which one they “love the most”? :)

And what the hell was up with that closing shot of the episode?

The actual line was "we didn't find you Clark, you found us."

So, if Lucy was working with this guy, what was the point of the big chase scene in Switzerland during the teaser?

Clarks little jump of the bridge sure was impressive, but...
...
he could have heard/seen them longer before
and jumped at an earlier moment when there is no need jump THAT far...
Its bright day and other drivers can see him..

For that matter, he could have just run off the bridge instead of jumping, then used the on ramp and ran to catch the truck.

Jimmy Olsen comes to town and reveals that he’s a child molester

Didn't they already imply in a previous episode that he deflowered Chloe when she interned at the Planet over the summer?

And what the hell was up with that closing shot of the episode?

They were probably trying to make it really super obvious that Clark and Lois are destined to be together by erroneously implying they are star-crossed (IIRC, star-crossed lovers actually means they are doomed to a tragic love or some such, which doesn't fit C&L).

Yeah, maybe they could've used something a bit mroe subtle to convey that point......like a lead pipe.

Or a little more clear, because I don't think I quite got that. Though that's the only part of the episode that I've seen so far.

Let's just assume that that wasn't Olsen.

Plus if Chloe was a teenage intern Jimmy could have been one as well.

If Lois doesn’t like being called on her cell early in the morning, as she indicates in the teaser, why doesn’t she turn it off at night like I do?

While most cell phone services have voice mail, but some cell phones only save the phone number of the caller when they're on. So if you have such a phone turned off and someone calls but doesn't leave a message, then you'll never know about it. My cell phone is like that, it's possible Lois has a similar model.

Also, she might have just left it on by accident. I do the same.

Even so, couldn't she just turn the ringer off?
