Not a very original episode---we've various Characters Not Acting Like Themselves episodes, and Character Finding Out Secret Identity Eventually Gets Amnesia episodes, and Lana being a vampire comes off way too similar to her being a witch last season, even if the means were science-based this time instead of magic based--- but I still found the episode an okay way to fill an hour.
This week's comic book references were interesting. The comments about Clark's cape and costume and mask were obvious, but I liked Professor Miles (Brainiac's) comment to Lex when he shows Lex information he dug up on Lexcorp:
Lex: "How did you get this?"
Miles/Brainiac: "I just used my brain."
I know that Clark and Lex's relationship has been subject to upsets and restarts and whatnot, but at this point, is Lex really okay with Clark showing up uninvited inside his mansion?
Worst. Episode. Ever.
My opinion is that it was not spectacular, but not terrible either.(The only truly bad episode was "Lucy") Having Clark dress up as Zorro and talk about the cape was cute, as well as the former Spike saying, "There's no such thing as vampires." The "Buffy Sanders" reference.
As far as Clark showing up at the mansion I figured that Clark had rung the bell and one of Lex's flunkies led him in offscreen.
Oh, the Buffy reference. That was surprising too.
I also found the Zorro reference interesting, given that Zorro, IIUC, was one of the several inspirations for Batman.
Also the pan up the Daily Planet building at the end looked very similar to the opening sequence of the 50's Superman TV show. (the color episodes)
Best. Episode. Ever.
I have a nitpick...
after being shot, hacked at by an axe, blown up-a few times- thrown through walls, nearly electricuted and "flew" into orbit AND SURVIVED!
a vamped-out Lana just bites him and draws blood??
o-k-a-y.
why not, especially since this is just WBs Superman after all.
but not a bad halloween ep. I can think of worse.

At the moment Lana bit Clark, Clark was under the weakening effect of his close proximity to Kryptonite. It has been established in previous episodes that when Clark is in this weakened state, his skin can be broken or penetrated such that he would bleed.

Luigi Novi: Good point. If she were a traditional magic-based vampire, then it would work, since the comics version of Supes has been established to be vulnerable to magic, and suffered injury once when he was attacked by a vampire in an Action Comics annual by John Byrne and Arthur Adams.
I thought she was able to bite him because he was being exposed to kryptonite and was in a weakend state.
luigi and john-boy now have to argue for the next week as to whether or not lana flew in this episode. )
No we don't.
