Ho-hum.
At the end of the episode, when Lois tells Martha that Lex will up his ad and mailer campaign, and they mention that Jonathan's campaign is almost out of money, Martha tells Lois that there's another option, but that Lois has tell promise not to tell Jonathan. Hey, Martha, I have a better idea! Why not just NOT TELL LOIS in the first place?! Just because Martha has just decided to accept Lionel's donation offer doesn't mean that she has to blurt it out! If the creators wanted to indicate that Martha decidec this they could've just had the camera simply pan closer to her face as she exhibits a pensive expression. And hell, the closing scene of the episode makes even that unnecessary!
Well, let's face it, there's going to be a lot of money coming in from Lionel. And while telling Lois may seem to be, well... idiotic, I think Martha knows that not saying anything to anyone and trying to cover it all up herself would be even more foolish. And it's a safe bet that Lois, with her new job on the campaign, is probably going to directly see the money the most if it's going into ad campaigns and such. It's easier, probably, to explain ahead of time and keep her quiet than it is to deflect difficult questions and keep her quiet.
And as a side note... with all the references to the comics they tend to slip in the show, I'd just about kill to hear a "Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex" reference (yes, I know, not technically a comics reference, but still) given Clark's nervousness concerning his and Lana's sex lives.
Lois isn't going to see the money if Marta keeps it in a separate account of her own, and/or tells Jonathan and Lois that another company donated it.
