Zod

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Smallville: Season Six: Zod

Well that was interesting.

If I'm not mistaken, when Zod is banished from Lex, I think the creators used an image of Terrance Stamp as Zod from Superman II as his spirit. I didn't tape the episode so I'm not certain of that.

What is it with the battles on this show? I thought for sure that we'd have a major brawl between Zod and Clark, but as usual, we get about three throwing moves until Clark defeats him. I will grant that Zod pounding Clark's head into that boulder was pretty cool.

So Jimmy Olsen (excuse me, JAMES Olsen) is apparently the same age as Clark and Chloe? Ooookay.

Those two evil Kryptonians from the Phantom Zone aren't very bright are they? At least the creators are consistent with their stupidity.

Why would Jor-El think that sending Raya to the Phantom Zone would be better than staying on Krypton to die? Hasn't he ever heard of a "fate worse than death"? I think I'd rather get blown to pieces with my family than spend eternity trapped in the Phantom Zone.

Speaking of the Phantom Zone, they creators pulled off a pretty good portrayal of said zone. The idea of there being "phantoms" in the Phantom Zone is one that I've never seen before but which makes perfect sense.

Doesn't the Phantom Zone seem like a rather cruel invention on the part of Jor-El? Raya said that this was created to imprison criminals that span the 28 known galaxies. Is this really considered reasonable punishment for anything? Wouldn't killing a person be more humane? (Kryptoniane?)

And while I'm thinking about it, Jor-El sure is a busy guy isn't he? He created the Phantom Zone, worked to save Krypton, fought Zod, built a spaceship for his infant son, was part of the ruling council of Krypton, and still had time to be a quality family man. That's quite a father figure.

How was Lex planning to have sex with Lana? I thought other episodes have established that Clark could only have relations when he didn't have his powers?

So what was the point of the computer virus anyway?

The government has some kind of seismic satelite weapon in orbit? Sure, why the he|| not?

I really loved the final scene between Zod and Clark. It was just about a word-for-word, scene-for-scene recreation of the climax of Superman II. That was really cool.

So why was Brainiac piloting the plane at the end of the last episode if it was Jor-El who guided Martha and Lois to the Fortress of Solitude? This was unclear.

Overall, not a bad start to the season. Here's hoping for further improvement and not a regress into the abyss that was season four.

"Kneel before Zod!"

I figured that Zod's flying while holding Clark would finally give Clark the idea that he himself could fly as well. "Hey, if Zod could do it then so can I!"

I only wish they'd kept with Clark wearing glasses so that when he eventually becomes Superman he could them as his Clark Kent disguise since CK's the real disguise, not Superman.

Speaking of CK, I guess this marks Olsen's first usage of those initials for Clark for whenever he later joins the Daily Planet in this alternate Superman mythos universe.

It was never established that he couldn't have relations when he was powerless. Only that he was too paranoid to risk it.

So what was the point of the computer virus anyway?

Probably to destabilize the world's infrastructure so when Zod made his play to be the ruler of Earth his particular brand of leadership would seem preferable to total anarchy and panic.

Clark was too shy to ask Chloe out... that's terrible.. then James Olsen asks her out and she accepts!
