Heart of Darkness and The Secret Sharer were better books than I'll ever write in my second or third language.
Mistah Kurtz - he dead.
A penny for the Old Guy.
Those lines from Eliot's Waste Land - in combination with mental images from Apocalypse Now - send small shivers down my spine every time.

I think it's interesting how the themes from Conrad's books have been incorporated in pop culture. Of course, there's "Apocolypse Now," but I've seen versions of the "Heart of Darkness" (or "Apocolypse Now") on "Anamaniacs," "Tiny Toons," and "Pinky and the Brain." Of course, these cartoons are all produced by Steven Spielberg (sp?), so perhaps I should just question Conrad's affect on Spielberg.
Spielberg is American pop culture.

A belief in a supernatural source of evil is not necessary; men alone are quite capable of evry wickedness" -- Under Western Eyes (1911)
