How can a show that hasn't even premiered yet have a fan club?
Anywya, I may wtach this show but ONLY if it's NOT up against Law & Order SVU! SVU wins every time.
It probably has more to do with Joss Whedon, it is proably the same people who like Buffy.
Of course I wish he would concentrate on Buffy and Angel and wait a year before he starts this.
He seems to be branching out to all the networks. He has one show on the WB, one on UPN and one to be on FOX later this Fall. I wonder how soon before he gets shows on ABC, NBC and CBS? Or PBS? Or WE? I'm not counting FX cuz it only shows the previous Buffy eps, not current ones. Or does it? I don't have FX so I dunno.
You forgot the BBC. Well, Capre Diem
Well, if it works out BBC will have 'Reaper', or whatever the Giles series will be called
Scheduled air date for the premiere: 20 September, 2002.
One of the hallmarks of Buffy and Angel has been the way that Joss Whedon has developed the characters over the years;hopefully FOX keeps Firefly on long enough for the characters to grow and develop in the same way.
From what I saw yesterday the characters did seem more believable than the average Space Oater.
Anyone know what the language they speak on the show is?
When the first episode started, I kept thinking of this as a live-action "Trigun"
The singing in the theme song (Sonny Rhodes, by the way) works much better on Firefly than on Enterprise.
>Anyone know what the language they speak on the show is?>
I read somewhere that it is Chinesse.
You know, this would be a really great show, if only Fox would actually show it instead of preempting it for baseball at the time. What do they think this is, Futurama?
Hey! Leave my Angels alone!
Hey! Leave my Futurama alone!
Hey, I liked Futurama. I was just trying to make an ironic reference to how fox treated that show.
When the first episode started, I kept thinking of this as a live-action "Trigun."
Or even more like a live-action Cowboy Bebop, which is the epitome of what a "space western" should be.
Sounds good.
*puts Cowboy Bebop on his list of "Things To Watch"*
You shan't be disappointed.
Has this board been quiet or is it me? Anyone watching this have any nits? Anyone watching the program?
I have been watching and enjoying the show.
Mabye the engine stopped and we have to conserve air.
If anyone wants to take over as the Firefly moderator you're more than welcome to it. I've been watching the show but haven't done anything with the board. I've looked on the 3 Firefly sites I have bookmarked but none of them have the episodes past the ones I have under Season One, so I dunno those eps' names.
I have been watching the episodes but i haven't spotted any nits.
It is my understanding that the suits at Fox will decide this week if Firefly will continue. Based on a newspaper article I read this past Sunday about John Doe which follows Firefly, both series may be cancelled. The article stated that Firefly was getting 4.5 million viewers and JD was getting 7 million, but not enough to keep them from being considered to get the axe.
Anyone that has more info, please let us know.
And HOW many viewers did the X-Files have in their first year? FOX needs to stop expecting EVERY show to be a smash hit right from the start.
I understand that Fox will give Firefly two more showings and then decide what happens. There is a movie running this Friday, so hopefully we will see a new episode on 29 Nov 02.
Interesting show, has a lot of potential. Hard to spot nits in a new sci-fi show. There's always the "hey, they lost all power but the gravity and life support kept working" nit, but that one is so tired, it's not worth getting into.
Don't expect to see it too much longer. Without a unifying plot (ala the relentless pursuit of Chriton by the Peacekeepers on "Farscape"), the show is meandering.
I'll miss the space-hooker. ;)
Excuse me, I think the show is kind of supposed to meander. Like Trek. Only I'm liking Firefly better, actually (this from a seriously obsessed Trekker).
I really hope this one doesn't get the axe. It's weird, but we need this kind of creativity on TV. Besides, I'd rather not see Joss Whedon stuck in vampire land. BTVS and Angel won't last forever, and the guy is a freaking genius.
I am very angry about Firefly being cancelled. FOX execs. ARE idiots. As I type this, it's still possibly UPN may pick it up.
I have a Firefly fan site that might interest you:

See you in alt.tv.firefly... or in the Trek NGs.

The U.K Sci-Fi Channel currently is showing Firefly in the U.K on digital Cable/Satellite at the moment, and on the 21st of July, the world premiere of the (unscreened in the U.S) episode Heart Of Gold is due.
Maybe this board should include,
the "Unscreened in the U.S" Episodes ?
(Basically Firefly had 13 or 26 episodes made, but only 8 were shown in the U.S )
The entire 13 episode run of Firefly will come out on DVD on Dec. 9, the same day as the Buffy Season 5 set, too. Here's a bit of what Joss Whedon says about it on the last page of a recent 10-page interview (click the link to read the entire interview):
IGNFF: What is the current production status on the Firefly DVDs?
WHEDON: They should be coming out in the fall. Late fall.
IGNFF: The full-on special edition?
WHEDON: Oh my god. They couldn't be specialer. We've got three unaired episodes, commentary by every cast member, big interviews with everybody, gag reel – all kinds of stuff. It's just bells and whistles, and they'll be in the right order. And widescreen. So it really couldn't be better DVD package... a wicked one, at that. They really went to town on it. I was like, "I don't know if they'll release them on DVD, because it was cancelled," and they're not only releasing it, they're doing everything. I did the commentary on the two-hour pilot with Nathan. He and Alan did one together... Alan Tudyk. It's really exciting.
Considering Buffy was itself a mid-season replacement, I find it ironic that Firefly's gone mid-way through it's first year.
BTW, anyone know what show Buffy replaced?
Strictly speaking, MarkN, unaired in the U.S.
Reason, The Sci-Fi Channel in the U.K's currently showing the 3 "unaired" episodes on cable/satellite !
Firefly: The Movie

Also coming soon (To Region 1),
Firefly:The Box Set !
Reportedly, it will contain ALL the Firefly episodes in correct order & features commentries from Joss Whedon & the cast.
Firefly Term:
Wave: Communication, Message, Letter (ref. "Our Mrs. Reynolds")
SciFi is going to air the series beginning 22 July (IIRC) starting at 7:00 p.m. eastern/6:00 p.m. central. Will the programs be shown as they were meant in order, not as Fox showed when it first came on?
Thanks.
Yeah, I believe they'll be shown in the correct order. I know they're starting with the pilot.
Josh, thanks. I will be watching and see how it looks as it should have been shown.
Will there be a Serenity board added?
There's a hilarious and affectionate parody of Firefly on YouTube. It's worth sticking through the end credits for an extra bit at the end.
"Take my dog, take my cat,
A sci-fi without western hats ...
We say 'Zed' instead of 'Zee',
You can't take this show from me."
I was a fan of this series, though in the best of all worlds,I wish FOX had been able to support both Dark Angel & Firefly. The Serenity movie gave us the answer to the recurring origin of the evil Reavers that were on Firefly. While it was a cool explanation,& while the Reavers were indeed a scary bunch,it never made any sense to me about their being in outer space.Just how can crazy,out-of-their-gourds,nutsos actually pilot spaceships successfully? That requires complex skill sets & a presence of mind,& calm, cool deliberation.Insane folks could hardly be up to this task,& even if they were once adept at operating a spaceship, that ability would have been totally lost by the Reavers given their psychotic condition. And no,I won't buy the explanation that they were insane but "just sane enough"to run a spaceship. These men & women were full-out whack jobs, plain & simple.Otherwise, this was a wonderful show, intriguing cast, with some terrific scripts. It was a shame that it died such an early death. But the fact that they were able to make the Serenity movie was a miracle & a very, very welcome one at that.
In the wonderful episode "Trash," when the crew of the Serenity reprograms the garbage-drone in order to give it new coordinates,it seems ludicrous that the Serenity ship can simply hover beneath the floating estate & nobody in security catches this. Not to mention the various vessels flying by while this is all going on.
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Last week I got my roommate into this show (I've gotten several friends into the show which is nice, I get to re-watch the show with a newbie every 6 months or so) and I had one of the worst days of my life today. I mean some drama BS that will haunt me for the rest of my life, and I came home and told roomie I 'didn't want to talk about it' so we watched some "Firefly" instead. After everything I've been through in the past 2 days I watched some "Firefly" and I had a smile on my face. Thank you Joss.
I'm not even down with religion but I pray to God that I can one day write something half that good.
