Did anyone else find the captain a bit out of character in this one? He hasn't seemed like the sort to pickpocket before; he's not a terribly law-abiding citizen, but he's so far seemed to have an ethical code (see the pilot) that would keep him from such petty theft.
On another note: Was that Caution tape during the first part of the dual on purpose or an accidental addition?
Mal is very much against slavery, and those were slavers. I don't find it surprising that he would take the money they earned by selling people.
So that's why River ripped the labels off those cans. I totally didn't know this until now. Cool.
The sword wound Mal receives in this ep can also be seen in the movie, along with the three other scars he receives during the show.
Mal's a bit smug at the end when he's teasing Atherton about losing, considering he only won because Inara distracted him, allowing Mal to land a cheating blow.
