When Mal asks Inara if friends who need help are an entire group of Companions, Inara says no, that they're whores. Mal asks if she has not objected to that term, and she responds that in this case, it's appropriate. But isn't that term extremely pejorative in nature, rather than merely descriptive, as opposed to "prostitute" or "hooker"? When Mal first used that term to describe Inara, as seen in Out of Gas, didn't she make it clear that she took offense to the term, and not that it was merely inaccurate? If she acknowledges that it has an insulting connotation, shouldn't she just say, "No, they're not Companions, but they are prostitutes."?

Maybe the meaning of the word has changed, at least in the more "sophisticated" circles Inara frequents, whereas Mal used it in the more old-fashined sense. She could have taken offence at being refered to as a less-than official Companion

It could be that she was also just doing that most human thing of being hypocritical. There are plenty of people who have no problem with friends doing something but balk at even the thought of people thinking that they do that same thing. She obviously considers herself something more than a common whore; where it's $X in exchange for sex. She is educated, refined and trained. She can discuss politics, art, history or philosophy. A common 5 dolla' suckee suckee girl ain't that.

When the crew first see Nandi's place, Wash asks why it looks like a frozen dinner, and it is explained (I think by Kaylee) that it's for solar collection, to generate power. But solar collection would be best facilitated by material that absorbs as much sunlight as possible, which means it should be black, since black surfaces absorb the most sunlight. This is why solar panels, despite being covered with a transparent surface, are dark underneath. So why would the solar collection material being completely reflective like a mirror, or tin foil?

Does Mal's pistol fire bullets or some sort of laser bolt? I've always wondered. It doesn't sound like a regular gun in some episodes.

This ship is everything in the world to me, my livelihood and my home. I think I'll just park it over here by this rock and hope no one breaks in.

Man-portable laser weapons are the exception in the Firefly setting. Most of the firearms in the series are suppose to be coilguns.

Burgess isn't the brightest, is he? While Mal's galloping up to jump on his hover car, he keeps it nice and steady when just a little turn would've made that impossible.

And why leave Petaleen at the whorehouse while he verfied the baby's DNA? She could have run off, especially after he threatened to cut it out of her body should it be his.

Good grief, Inara. Overreact JUST A LITTLE to Mal sleeping with someone else after months of insulting him and making it clear she wouldn't have him if he were the last man in the 'verse?

Best line: I'm just waitin' to see if I pass out. Long story.

Actually the whole idea that Mal was able to catch up with a hovercraft on a horse borders on the absurd. Either that hovercraft has really poor performance, or Mal was riding Turbo the Wonder Horse.
