Why is it that Reese hadn't heard of Batman? Batman only disappeared seven years ago, and he was actively fighting crime up until his disappearance. And wasn't Batman's existence common knowledge to Gotham City police when Batman was fighting crime in Gotham City? There was even the bat-signal, which was a signal from the police (more specifically police commissioner Gordon), requesting Batman's assistance with criminal matters.
