When Bartlet and Leo debate about hiring Ainsley, Charlie is in the room, and he makes a joke when the President asks his opinion. Later, Bartlet says, "When they close the book on you and me, it will show that at this moment I needed you and you weren't there for me," or words to that effect. Thinking about the last two seasons, I find that I really missed Bartlet's sense of humor and the interplay between him and the staff. Even though the show transitioned because it had to, and the writers did a wonderful job, showing boldness and creativity in writing a two-season election story arc that was brilliant and unexpected--still, I missed the simple humorous banter between Jed and his staff. Which is why, of course, that I wish that we could have rounded out the series with Season Acht, showing the first year of President Santos.
