Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: The West Wing: Season 4: 20 Hours in America

Great episode, great, great episode. Lots of tension, lots of humor (esepcially from Toby, Josh, and Donna, the new Three Stooges :).)

By Matthew Patterson (Mpatterson) on Thursday, September 26, 2002 - 3:03 pm:

I'm calling it great because Charlie got something to do and because Nancy McNally finally cracked. What everyone else was doing, I don't care about. Particularly Josh and Toby's lame rehashing of the 2000 Presidential election, but with "Ritchie" in place of "Bush."

By ScottN on Thursday, September 26, 2002 - 5:46 pm:

I forgot. Why did they shoot down the Qumari guy to begin with?

By ScottN on Thursday, September 26, 2002 - 5:48 pm:

Great moment:
Bartlett coming out of the Oval Office after the interview, making some comments about "Dweck" and his relationship with some politico, who happens to be standing right there. He lamely says, "she didn't give you up" and walks back into the Oval Office.

Oh, and Matt, I agree. Nancy's blowup was great.

By Hammer on Thursday, September 26, 2002 - 8:55 pm:

They found out that the Qumari guy was one of the leaders of a terrorist group, and he ordered the failled attempt to blow up the golden gate bridge.

A good episode and I am glad some one is still complaining about the 2000 election I have had similar conversations myself.

By Matthew Patterson (Mpatterson) on Thursday, September 26, 2002 - 9:37 pm:

I am utterly dismayed that someone is still complaining about the 2000 election. It is *over*. I watched it on TV when it happened. I don't need fictional characters allegorically working out the issues when those issues aren't the ones that are important right now.

By Hammer on Thursday, September 26, 2002 - 11:00 pm:

yes but it needs to be talked about is can be classified as a coup, the man who took office did not win the election, of course this brings up the problems with the ignorantly conceived electorial college, but that is another discussion.

By Ed Watson on Wednesday, October 09, 2002 - 4:00 pm:

Another discussion indeed. The most amazing thing about the 2000 election to me is that the outcry to abolish the EC, which I fully expected, never happened.

As for not wanting to talk about it anymore, I can only assume that line of thought comes from those people who wanted Bush to win. You know, that group of people who, when it was all over, did the BIG brow wipe, knowing they had pulled one out of the fire.

The facts are the facts. Gore won the popular vote going away. He would have won without the EC and would have won with the EC if all the Florida votes had been counted, which we all know they weren't. It WAS a coup, pure and simple.

Of course, this is a never ending conversation with no resolution. We could fill up this server arguing about it, but it wouldn't do any good. All we can do is to make sure that idiot we have for a president goes the way of his Dad. ONE term and OUT!!!

Um. No? Incredibly wrong? Making a lot of unsupported leaps? Could I make any more statements questions? Why don't we see?

I reiterate: I didn't want Bush in office. I didn't want Gore in office. I didn't want any of the other candidates in office *either*. I don't want to see the 2000 election reborn on television in 2002 because IT BORED ME TO DEATH WHEN IT WAS LIVE.

I loved the scene in the bar where Toby was talking with the man who said that he didn’t mind working hard to put his daughter through college but he wished it wasn’t quite so hard. When Toby glanced at Josh for confirmation that he didn’t have to say, “I work at the White House” after his name, but then deliberately said it anyway, I got quite teary-eyed!

Bartlet's speech at the end is probably my favorite of the whole series.
