So what finally happened? Toby said that Sam was going to lose, but did he? We never got a definitive answer.

I've been looking for that answer all over the Internet Harvey, and nobody seems to know or care. This show needs more nitpickers!

Specifically, it was said that if Sam lost, he would come back to the White House and get a promotion. Toby told Leo, while recommending Will for Sam's old job, that they could get the "small stuff" off of Sam's desk and let him concentrate on the President and the country. Then in the last seen, Sam finally realizes that he is "getting creamed". He and Toby finish their drinks and walk out of the bar, .... and that's it!

If Sam won, you think they would have mentioned it, and if he lost, he should be back at the White House, so what gives?

Of course, we'll never know now. Aaron Sorkin has announced he is leaving the show next season and the whole episode will never be mentioned again.

Very disappointing, especially from such a great and well written show.
