What the hell was THAT all about?!

I miss Aaron Sorkin already...:(

By ScottN on Thursday, October 30, 2003 - 5:36 pm:

Let Leo be Leo!

This episode did not feel right.

Though I like what Josh did in outing the Congressman... With friends like him, who needs enemies?

By ScottN on Thursday, October 30, 2003 - 5:37 pm:

Pardon me. Senator, not Congressman.

By ScottN on Thursday, October 30, 2003 - 5:38 pm:

Was anyone besides Ed Watson (on the Aaron Sorkin board) and myself half-expecting that letter the CJ delivered to Leo to be her resignation?

By Harvey Kitzman on Thursday, October 30, 2003 - 8:51 pm:

ScottN,

Yes, I thought CJ would resign. I agree with what is on the Sorkin board that the characters are not acting right. I am missing him.

On an unrelated note, one thing that I have never understood about this show is the relationship with the Vice Presidents. Granted, Bartlet was forced to take Lumburgh (Bingo Bob), but Will was right - the VP is no flunky. The VP should coordinate with the President in a unified message. Maybe I am expecting the Clinton-Gore relationship, but I think the VP is getting the shaft in this show. Hoynes wasn't even on the victory stage with Bartlet when they were re-elected.

I'm with Ed, too.

These aren't the people I know! *pissed*

I felt that I was watching the Bizzaro West Wing. None of the characters seemed right, I do not think Will would taker that job, I do not think Leo would act that way regarding coal. One story note though, Amy's behavior was extremely off, but if she acted like that she should be fired.

One other thing, why is it assumed that the Bartlett presidency is politically dead? Sure there was the tragedy with the kidnapping, but the 2nd term is all of 8 months old. I think they are jumping the gun on the Vice President.

By Ed Watson on Friday, October 31, 2003 - 2:21 pm:

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who felt the disaster that was this episode.

I think it's assumed (or hoped by some?) that the Bartlett presidency is politically dead because despite his supposed high moral character, it turns out that he is a liar (about his MS), and a murderer (ordering the hit on Sharif).

I realize not everyone will agree with those characterizations, but from the point of view of his political enemies, that's what he is now.

He even said it to Leo in the season opener. They were standing at that arc shaped window in the residence and he said something like, "Oh Leo. All the things we wanted to do. All the things we wanted to accomplish". The quote was something like that, but bascially he was coming to grips with the fact that he had effectively killed the rest of his presidency.

Wasn't he supposed to be smarter than that?

These people used to enjoy working together. They acted as if they all hated each other. The only excuse for this episode is if they're all going to get over it and get back to doing what they're supposed to do. I really miss Asron Sorkin.

Synopsis for this episode: CJ has a hard time sending out a message that she doesn't agree with, Amy starts abusing her position whilst Josh tries to deal with a recalcitrant Senator. Meanwhile Toby is faced with the news that Will may be working for the VP.

Bugger me was everyone in the West Wing on grumpy pills in this episode?? Everyone sniping at each other, yelling and carrying on like a bunch of spoilt school kids? On the plus side, I much prefer this version of Amy then the really annoying one Sorkin created.
