So do you guys think it was real or not?

I think so.

When Toby tries to leave Sam/Will's old office and is...ahem, stopped: BEAUTIFUL! Exactly as it should have been. This makes up for Sorkin's nauseating joke back in "Evidence of Things Not Seen" in which we're expected to believe that both Charlie and Debbie could force their way past the Secret Service into the Oval. Both of them--well, maybe NOT Debbie, but Charlie for sure--would have been flattened like Toby was in this episode. (As I said in the discussion of that episode, up until then, the Secret Service had been portrayed as a totally competent agency, and making a cheap joke at the expense of the agency's credibility was a bad idea. This IS how they are; show it how it is. Don't make the people who put themselves in the path of bullets look dumb just for a pun.)

Also, I know I'm probably one of the few, if not the only one, around here who doesn't exactly love Toby. (It'd be nice to hear from someone else who feels the same way.) So, I admit to a certain sneaking delight at seeing HIM get smashed to the floor, esp. after we're treated to a typical display of Ziegler-esque superiority (daring to tell Will, the VP's chief of staff, that he [Toby] will clear the VP's speeches at joint VP/POTUS events from now on). Just that remark earned a trip to the mat.
