28 hours, 15 minutes and counting...

By Hannah F., West Wing Moderator (Cynicalchick) on Wednesday, October 20, 2004 - 8:03 pm:

I liked it.

So, guys? Does this look to be a promising season? Does it make up for last season?

By Ed Watson on Thursday, October 21, 2004 - 1:03 pm:

I'm not holding my breath.

I haven't watched the tape again, so several questions linger.

1. WHY did the White House allow Chairman Farrad to successfully invite himself to Camp David? Don't you just go on TV and tell the world that there was no invitation? They were planning on having a summit with just the Palestinian PM and the Israelis. What happened to that?

2. Did the President really spend the whole show rejecting military options, only to call a strike on Syrian camps once the peace talks started?? What the hell was THAT?

3. Why did Kate forcefully (and succesfully!) talk the President into peace talks and then, once that happened, go around apologizing to to the President and Leo??

Promising? No, I wouldn't use that word.

No. He rejected them as the *first and only* option.

Hannah: Promising yes, but so was Enterprise. For that matter, so was CSI New York, my least favorite of the franchise. In fact I didn't even watch it after the Pilot, I just went back to being a loyal Law & Order-ite.

Bri: I didn't bother with CSI:NY; I stayed with the L&O premiere. Besides, NYC is L&O territory. *mad*

*CC Hulk Smashes her computer* DIE!!!!!

By Brian Webber on Saturday, October 23, 2004 - 2:39 pm:

I watched L&O but taped CSI NY (and as such ended up missing the season opener of Smallville because my freaking VCR had a kaniption(sp?)), and was sorely disapointed.

Changed Premise/Continuity Error: In the S3 episode "On the Day Before", Bartlett specifically names Arafat as the PLO chairman. Who is this Farrad guy?

By Matthew Patterson (Mpatterson) on Tuesday, November 23, 2004 - 1:07 pm:

Scott, the show appears to have jumped ahead in time a few years, so perhaps the Farrad guy is whoever installed himself in Arafat's place. (Not that I think John Wells is smart enough to accurately predict Arafat's death, but let's hear it for a retcon.)

By ScottN on Tuesday, November 23, 2004 - 1:34 pm:

Hey, I'm just pointing out the nit :) We are nitpickers, after all.

By Hannah F., West Wing/C&J Moderator (Cynicalchick) on Tuesday, November 23, 2004 - 5:11 pm:

Matt! Long time no see, man! I miss ya! :)

By Matthew Patterson (Mpatterson) on Wednesday, November 24, 2004 - 12:19 am:

Well, I'm just saying, if the show is now taking place in the post-2004 world, then Arafat really is dead, and making up a replacement for him isn't really a nit.

By Jesse on Friday, March 25, 2005 - 8:32 am:

The only issue with Farrad being Arafat's replacement is that it is a really grim prediction. Farrad was written to BE Arafat, right down to the towel he wears on his head. Your theory means that the PLO got themselves a virtual clone of Arafat to replace the dead chief, meaning many more years of no progress for the Palestinians.(Sorry to be insensitive, but all I ever thought of when I saw Arafat was a kitchen towel.)

And, as a side point written from the standpoint of a March viewer....whatever happened with this plot line? It's never been mentioned again save a toss-off line here or there about "commitments" to the Middle East.

Frankly, while I've enjoyed watching (most of) the politicking for the next presidential election, the episodes featuring the waning days of the Bartlett Administration have left me kind of annoyed. For one thing, Kate Harper just doesn't do it for me as a main character. I know that the WH is thin (cast-wise), with Josh, Donna, and Will gone, but her character does not interest me at all, especially when I know that Nancy McNally is STILL the NSA (but is just "away" all the time).

Second, I don't care for the "Wonder Season" they've been giving Bartlett. In the past, he's been a very human president who's had to do some unpleasant things (esp. the assassination of Sharif). Now, everything's going perfectly for him. He solves the Mid-East crisis, achieves a historic (unofficial) entente with China (paving the way for better future relations) and decides to change the US's policy regarding Cuba. What's next, will he single-handedly discover a cure for AIDS and reverse global warming with a glib comment and a bill-signing?
