Anyone just wanna cry?

By Jesse on Sunday, May 14, 2006 - 9:00 pm:

Yeah. I can't believe it's over. Gosh, I'd kill for just one season of President Santos.

By Hannah F., West Wing/C&J Moderator (Cynicalchick) on Sunday, May 14, 2006 - 9:56 pm:

No kidding.

By T`Pooh on Sunday, May 14, 2006 - 10:59 pm:

I have to start off by picking a nit. Santos said Inauguration Day was in January because the founders made it that way. Inauguration Day was originally in March. It took that long to get through the election and get ready for it in those days. It was changed to January later. That said, I'm really really going to miss those guys.

By T`Pooh on Sunday, May 14, 2006 - 11:04 pm:

P.S. It wss originally March 4 and was changed to January 20 staring with FDR's second term. I guess we'll never know if Charlie and Zoey got married. Starting law school doesn't seem like a good time for that.
When Santos said he would preserve, protect and defend the Constitution, he sounded like he meant it, unlike some people I could mention.
Sigh.

I would have loved seeing how the Santos Administration played out. Especially when NBC supports other long running dramas that have had cast changes, and have long been running on empty. I mean, how many ways can they destroy the ER?

Too many loose ends - Zoe/Charlie, Donna/Josh, Kate/Will. I also expected that more Bartlet people would stay on, like Will and Charlie. And no Toby in the last episode? This episode really needed Sorkin.

Plus every time I see Graham, I think about him being Carmela Soprano's cousin - see The Sopranos for reference.

One nit - there is no way the Bartlet people would have left out the door the way they did. Most Presidential staffs fly with the outgoing President on Air Force 1 to see that they get settled in to civilian life.

Man, I wish Bartlet and Santos were really President!

One other thing: Hannah, do you know how much of this show was filmed in DC? Those exterior shots had to be in DC. I find it very hard to believe that the current regime would be helpful to show and allow them to film there.

By Ed Watson on Monday, May 15, 2006 - 1:48 pm:

Busy day here, I'll have more later, but I wanted to throw this one out there.

Among the "minor" staff members the President said goodbye to was "Nancy", who actually is Renee Estevez, Martin Sheen's daughter. Did anyone catch the dialog?

Bartlett: "Nancy, how is your mother doing"?

Nancy: "Much better now Mr. President. She is looking forward to seeing you again soon."

BWAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Classic!

By Hannah F., West Wing/C&J Moderator (Cynicalchick) on Monday, May 15, 2006 - 2:37 pm:

Um, Sorkin WAS in this episode. :P The guy at the inaguration with glasses?

Ed: I know, some friends and I laughed about that.

I'm going to miss my friends. :(

And Harvey, the Bush admin would not go so far as to refuse a TELEVISION SHOW to film in DC. There would be a *huge* outcry. They also did not make NBC axe the show.

They probably went to DC, since they're all standing on the steps. The other stuff is probably stock footage.

Didn't Sam fire Larry and Ed (and get backed up by Lionel Tribbey) during the events of And It's Surely to Their Credit?

By ScottN on Monday, May 15, 2006 - 4:54 pm:

T'Pooh, I caught the date one as well, but was watching on tape delay, and as such, didn't have a chance to post.

By Hannah F., West Wing/C&J Moderator (Cynicalchick) on Monday, May 15, 2006 - 10:22 pm:

I don't think that was Ed & Larry, Scott..they've been on lots since then.

By ScottN on Monday, May 15, 2006 - 11:09 pm:

Who got fired in that ep, then?

By Hannah F., West Wing/C&J Moderator (Cynicalchick) on Monday, May 15, 2006 - 11:12 pm:

I think it was 2 nobodies.

By Harvey Kitzman on Tuesday, May 16, 2006 - 6:35 am:

Sorry Hannah, I meant to say the exterior shots of the White House.

I still say that they "influenced" NBC about the show. That seems like something Rove would do.

By Vinny on Tuesday, May 16, 2006 - 8:08 am:

Keep drinking that Kool-Aid, Harvey.

By Ed Watson on Wednesday, May 17, 2006 - 10:09 am:

Two more quick nits.

1. Santos did not say his name during the oath of office.

"I do solemnly swear", should have been, "I Matthew Santos do solemnly swear....."

2. At the beginning of that scene, the invocation is being said by the minister, whoever he was. The problem was that President Bartlett's eyes were NOT closed. Surely he's learned the proper protocol for praying by now.

I decided in thie episode that I like Helen Santos a LOT more than I like Abbey Bartlett. For some reason, I felt much more of a connection to that character. BTW, I LOVED the part as the Santos' are about to be introduced when Helen ruminates about the girl who beat her out for the last varsity cheerleading spot. Then we get the "loving husband" response.

"You won."

By Biggy on Wednesday, May 17, 2006 - 10:20 am:

For a ten-degree day in January, how come we didn't see anybody's breath?

By ScottN on Friday, May 19, 2006 - 12:11 pm:

Interesting thought...

Looking back at the comments on all the boards, it seemed that we all expected CJ to resign at one point or another. Yet she was the last Bartlett staffer to leave the White House (both figuratively and literally).
