This episode will take place over a period of approximately two months. Also, if I'm not mistaken, this episode involves Beka makin a promise to Dylan to get him, someway, somehow, to Tarn-Vedra.
What is the deal with Tarn-Vedra?
This is from All Systems University.
Tarn-Vedra - Capital of the Systems Commonwealth
Location: Paa Core, Andromeda Galaxy
Diameter: 11,930
Water coverage: 64%
Climate: Temperate to subarctic
Population: 14 billion (92% Vedran, 5% Perseid, 2% human, 1% miscellaneous)
Other Details: As befits the capital of the Systems Commonwealth, Tarn-Vedra is a planet of contrasts. While the coastal and mountain regions of Tarn-Vedra's three major continents are among the most heavily urbanized in known space, the planet's vast swaths of prairie, tundra and savanna stretch on uninterrupted for thousands of square miles. The cities of Tarn-Vedra house the headquarters for many of the Commonwealth's administrative bodies, including the High Guard, All Systems University and Ministry of Public Welfare. Meanwhile, the plains are where the many Vedran clans, herds and nations hold the festivals, ceremonies and mating games that have bound their culture together for untold millennia.
CY 9785 The Commonwealth's civil war continues, with the Nietzscheans foiling a High Guard counteroffensive at the Acheron Delta. And in a devastating blow to Commonwealth morale, Tarn-Vedra is abruptly cut off from the Slipstream, by methods unknown. Most of the inhabited worlds in the Andromeda and Milky Way galaxies fall to the Nietzscheans, leaving San-Ska-Re as the Commonwealth's provisional capital.
CY 9956 The so-called "Mad Perseid" Hasturi claims to have navigated to Tarn-Vedra and returned safely, but his extravagant claims are dismissed as the addled boasts of a mind distorted by spending too long in the Slipstream. After Hasturi's death, his ship log is lost and presumed destroyed.
Dylan and Rev Bem try to protect a Wayist mission from a slaver attack.
Did anyone else notice the IBM symbol on the top left side of the computer screen in one shot where Dylan was looking over the topographical map? Stock tip for the day - buy IBM as we now know that it will be around for a long time!!!
Is it just me or was Tyr on the wrong mission? I mean, Hunt is going to protect a colony from slavers--and he sends the former mercenary Nietszian super-man on the relief mission?
I can't even explain it in terms of story: plot-wise, it really wouldn't have made a whole lot of difference--they would _still_ not have had enough defenses for the colony.
I did like the show--I'm getting more & more addicted to _Andromeda_. I just hope they don't "revamp" it for the next season!i{
The only two things the creative staff is revamping for next season is: 1. the opening credits (another section of the March of the High Guard and a new monologue by Dylan) and 2. more of the higher cost aliens will be seen (thanks to a bigger budget).
Oh good! I _hate_ it when I get to liking a show and then the creators decide to "improve" it.
I'm beginning to think the IBM was put there on purpose as an Easter egg. I don't think editors could have missed something that blatant.
IBM = Intergalactic Business Machines?
Brother Thadeus is upset that Dylan will be teaching the Higara to kill, but earlier he said that Tiama led the hunting parties. How can you know how to hunt, but not to kill?
Also Thadeus assumes that everyone who kills will think it's a great thing. I seriously doubt that many people would think that. Some would get sick to their stomachs at the idea of killing, some will feel guilt for killing, etc., etc. All the various emotions & feelings about killing will be passed on, not just the knowledge of how to do it.
How many people when they saw the baby Magog went "Awwwwwww, they're so cute"?
Dataport date: 11.20.10087-1.4.10088
I actually half-expected Dylan to make a speech after the funeral, linking killing with the terrible pain of loss that they were feeling at that moment. Was kinda dissapointed when he didn't....
