Opening Quotes

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Andromeda: Commonwealth's Sink: Opening Quotes
By Newt on Monday, October 16, 2000 - 7:46 pm:

These first two episodes have had opening Quotations from Yin Man-Wei. I personally like these quotations they are quite interesting and set an intigueing background for the series. And since the official Andromeda site changed the quote to the one from the second episode, it seems that they are here to stay. I say hooray.

By Anonymous on Monday, October 16, 2000 - 8:12 pm:

I like the quotes myself and thought they were a good edition to the series.

By Lee Jamilkowski (Ljamilkowski) on Sunday, November 19, 2000 - 3:06 am:

I like the quotes, too. Not to mention that Dylan's opening narration is pretty good, too. "The long night has come..."

The surprise isn’t that the Commonwealth fell. The
surprise is that such a bloated entity managed to sus-

The biggest mistake we Nietzscheans made was
betraying the Commonwealth. Not because it brought
on the Long Night, though that’s hardly something to
celebrate. No, what it did was shift our arrogance in
the wrong direction. As long as we were part of the
Commonwealth, we could concentrate on how much
better we all were than everyone else. Once the war
and the Magog invasion wiped out all remants of civ-
ilization, all we had left was to focus on how much
better individual Nietzscheans were than other Nietz-
scheans. It’s not wonder we turned on each other….

The universe has changed, and we must change with it.
The High Guard must become leaner and meaner, tak-
ing advantage of technology to fill in the gaps left by
our diminished numbers. We must embrace new, non-
traditional missions that are ideally suited to our supe-
rior organization and resources. We must apply our
knowledge, our capabilities, our traditions of service
and sacrifice to operations other than war. And while
we must maintain our readiness to fight when the need
arises, we should oour equal energy into offering a
hand to those in need and those who seek to push the
frontiers of science and technology for the betterment
of sentient species everywhere. We must become more
than what we are-not just soldiers, but diplomats.
Not just engineers, but scientists. We must do more
than patrol the wastes between the stars; we must
explore them and share what we learn so that we may
grow wiser and more humble in the face of Creation.
