Sci-Fi author Alan Dean Foster is investigating Andromeda for possible plargarism of his Universe of the Commonwealth novels. He has noted some similarities between his novels and the series Andromeda.
1. Both mention an organization called the Commonwealth.
2. Andromeda has the insectiod race the Than while Commonwealth has the insectiod race the Thranx.
3. He has questioned if the creator got the The White hole antimatter collasper from his novel the End of Matter which uses a white hole creation device.
4. He has questioned if Wayism is related to his United Church.
5. And he has asked if the Aann from his novels has been mentioned in a Andromeda episode.
Could Robert Wolfe have stolen ideas from Foster or is just a coincidence.
Well--both "commonwealths" and insect races are pretty common in science fiction. The Wayist church isn't really all that unusual for an SF religion either--sort of pseudo-Budhist.
And the show as a whole has a different "feel" from any Alan Dean Foster novels I've read. Nor are the characters similar or the plots, except in the way most SF stuff is.
I'd say it's a case of there are only so many stories out there.
Also, I don't think that these two sources are the only ones to use the term "white hole".
No, Red Dwarf did too. I believe the episode was.... "White Hole".
Anyone know what's happened with this? Has Foster dropped the idea, or is he still looking into things?
I believe Foster eventually did drop the matter.
So that would be... The End of the Matter?
