How to Restore a Commonwealth

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Andromeda: Commonwealth's Sink: How to Restore a Commonwealth

I'm no expert on the subject (not being a High Guard Starship Captain and such), but it seems to me that Dylan's method for restoring the Commonwealth is a little on the flimsy side. He seems to randomly go to planets and ask them to join the Commonwealth.

1. Hunt has nothing to offer. His ship can't protect anyone since he's out roaming 3 galaxies looking for more recruits.
2. His enlistees could be scattered across god knows where. This is not a good stratigic plan.
3. He gets someone to join and then takes off again.

What he should do is try to enlist maybe 10-15 planets that are in fairly close proximity to each other. They should then build a small Commonwealth and start building more Andromeda-class ships to defend it. Then they should start expanding once they actually have some way of defending themselves against Neitchziehchneans and Magog and any other biblical references that should wander upon their space.

See ya later

I have to agree with you. It would be better to have the planets closer together so they could be protected.

It has to start with someone, and since Dylan is
the only one who remembers the old commonwealth
it just makes sense that he be the one to
restore it.

Certainly it doesn't seem that Dylan won't be able
to do it on his own,but one man with a dream can
change the entire world, especially if he has
enough faith.

Of course, if he really wanted to rebuild it, he would have a job cut out for him for the next 100 years, and that would be to boring for a tv show! I thought he had the best chance with the warrior children. He should have stayed there at least for a year or so to build everything up. Instead, and despite the fact he has seen how much the kids misinterpreted the previous messages and can't even read, he leaves them with one "transmission" and goes off. Ask somebody who is trying to rebuild a democratic society in a 3rd world country and they could tell you how many people, funding, experience and time you need. And one warlord grabbing for power, one hurricane season undoes the work of 20 years.
