"THE UNCONQUERABLE MAN"

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Andromeda: Season Three: "THE UNCONQUERABLE MAN"

While reflecting over a fallen Gaheris Rhade, an alternate, original timeline is shown in which Gaheris killed Dylan at Hesphaestus and then was rescued by the Eureka Maru crew. But Trance's true agenda comes into play, showing why Dylan must have been the one to survive.

We get to know more about Gaheris Rhade.

He is a rather interesting character. It would be good to find out more about him. I wonder if his descandant will be making another appearance as well.

A "What if?" scenario regarding Gaheris and Dylan.

I think this story would have worked better as a multiparter, as it was they had to compress several episodes all together and Rhade's decisions didn't make as much sense.

When they went back to the Witchhead nebula, why did Rhade want to return to the future? We later find out that he had become disappointed in how the Neitzchians turned out, but since we didn't see him becoming disappointed in the Neitzchians it seemed out of character.
Another possibility would be him staying and trying to avoid the disaster that is the next 300 years.

It might have been nice to actually see the developing relationship of Beka & Rhade, but unfortunately we only get that as they break up.

Would Beka really have been sent after a lost frieghter under Rhade as she was under Dylan?

The Dylan hologram seemed too knowledgeable about events, although maybe Andromeda had something to do with that.

Rhade kills his younger self, so how does he still exist?

What did Rhade do with his younger self's body? I would think Andromeda & Dylan would wonder why Rhade had two bodies when they examined the ship 300 years later.

In the teaser, we see Harper and Hunt talking about Rhade. Then we see an exterior shot of the Andromeda (presumably orbiting Terazed), the tesseracting visual and then Andromeda (presumably orbiting Sinti). At the end, the opposite is true and when Rhade dies at the end, we see the shift back.

Does this mean that in the "Rhade wins timeline" that the events of "Ouroboros" occur at the same time as Hunt's preparing to give Gaheris's body to Telemachus (thus to say, a year later than in the timeline we all know and love)? Time paradoxes give me a headache...

Also, I got the impression at the end that Dylan saw the tessearcting effect and dismissed it. Does this mean that though Harper's tesseracting machine has been destroyed that it's effects still pop up now and then?

I kind of wish we had gotten to see Telemachus again, though. Still, I have a question: Why the heck did it take over a year for the Andromeda crew to deliver Gaheris's body to Terazed? Why didn't they deliver it when they visited before?

So, originally Gaheris killed Dylan at the Battle of Hesphaistos, went through the years up to the events of "Ouroboros" and Neo Trance came back to say that things in the future are bad, she can help, the tesseract machine can't be destroyed and Dylan can make things better. So Gaheris goes back to the Battle of Hesphaistos, shoots the other Gaheris before he can kill Dylan, takes the uniform and lets Dylan kill him. Dylan goes through the events of "Ouroboros" and Neo Trance came back to say that things in the future are bad, she can help, the tesseract machine needs to be destroyed and they can all work to make things better.

I was disappointed by this ep; you think the Trib would've bitten the bullet and gone for something _original_ instead of using the old cut-and-paste-from-different-eps trick.
Also, how could Gaheris Rahde have turned out to be such a loser, to have failed where Captain Hunt(Captain HUNT!)had succeeded?
One more thing: Gaheris tells Tyr Anasazi that the AG field is holding him up; so how come Tyr falls down after Gaheris zaps him?
I liked the idea of a "Yesterday's Andromeda"; if only it hadn't been so poorly executed.

I thought it was an original way to do a clip show. Certainly a lot more thought than the usual clip show.

However, I still think it would have worked better had it been carried out over a few eps with more development of the character's personalities and the differences between this 'timeline' and the other 'timeline'.

As a clip show, it was pretty well done; I really didn't even think "clip show" until halfway through.

On the other hand, it wasn't much of a Rhade show. Somehow, I couldn't make myself believe that the man we saw in Under the Night and various flashbacks would be such a miserable failure. He was far too smart, ruthless, and determined to spend so much time moping.

And, I did not like the All-Knowing-Dylan Hologram. He, too, was not like the Dylan that we saw as Rhade's friend in all those shows.

Maybe it was all Andromeda's doing? She may have disliked him enough to put something in his food & to reprogram the hologram?

This totally screws with what was established before. Anyone else remember Dylan telling Sara, most assuredly, that alternate timelines don't exist? That was the rule until "OUROBOROS" and this episode pretty much says for sure that alternate timelines do exist.
