Parting Gifts

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Angel: Season One: Parting Gifts
After you've died, what do you give the girl you love? How about the vision of a seer, complete with blinding headaches.

And while that makes Cordelia's life miserable, a new demon hunter is in town. An old flame (well, guttering candle) of Cordelia's. Then her life is endangered by her new power. . . .

============================================================
Slog right through all the comments from the Buffy board. If it doesn't kill you, it will make you stronger. Trust me.

This episode is titled Parting Gifts.

Doyle's credit is still in the title sequence. Hmmmm?

Nice to see Wesley again. I thought he was funny anyway.

The audition was funny & I loved how Cordy got the bidding higher.

By Scott McClenny on Monday, December 27, 1999 - 09:53 pm:

I wonder if the reason why Doyle was killed off
and replaced by Wesley would be because of the
fact that Wesley and Cordie had more of a chemistry,or maybe Wesley provides more of
a comic
relief(?)

Any way watching Wesley trying to be a hip and
serious Demon Hunter was pretty funny!!:)

Too bad Doyle's gift had to come to life during
Cordie's audition, but at least it put some life
into what was turning into a pretty dead audition!

I will post more later, but I just wanted to say that supposedly the only reason Doyle was
killed was because either Greenwall or Joss said "Hey, wouldn't it be fun to kill off a
character in the beginning of the series?"

BTW, what does everyone think of the new style?

Darnit, now I've forgotten all my nits. Would it have been so hard to write them down,
you doof? Huh? Would it?

Amanda, is there a Kitchen Sink somewhere on this board? I often run into strange
rumors that I'd like to share with the class.

This episode was fun, but the token appearance by Wolfram and Hart wasn't really
necessary. I actually enjoyed Wesly, but his whining gets on my nerves. We will have to
see.

Little things: Wesly confirms that Faith is alive, but in a coma ("a vegetable"). I wouldn't
mind if she were to wake up and pay a little visit to Angel Investigations, if you know
what I mean, and I think you do.

By A. Sinclaire on Tuesday, December 28, 1999 - 01:13 am:

There is actually a rumours part and a kitchen sink, they are going to become one thing
soon.

soon = by wednesday

Guys, is my email at graffiti.net working? I emailed Mark about his interest in being a
2nd mod on this board, and then when I tried to access graffiti, it said the server was not
found
Doesn't that bite? I must have server bad luck. I hate that.

By Keith Alan Morgan on Tuesday, December 28, 1999 - 09:10 am:

I'd like to comment on Angel Investigations. I don't remember the first episode to state
that Angel was a Private Investigator, but most states, California included, have rules &
regulations for becoming a PI.
One thing which I believe would need to be done is a background check. Hmmm?
Name: Angelus "Angel" (whatever his last name is)
Date of Birth: 1758 (I think he said he was 240 in a Buffy episode)
Criminal Record: Vampire for 200 years & tried to destroy the world.

Even if Angel could get convincing fake ID. I would think he would have a bit of trouble
getting a PI's license.

By Mark Morgan on Tuesday, December 28, 1999 - 09:49 am:

Okay, a nit has shaken loose. In the first "crossover" (sorry, an Oz cameo don't cut it),
Angel destroys the Gem of Amara because he wants to live in the night. Doyle wants him
to use it to find some more normal clients, like those that might come in 9 to 5. Angel
makes a big deal out of it--if he can wander around during the day, he might forget the
lost people who are alone in the night. Very effective. Very moody.

Very moot. As this episode shows, Angel doesn't really need the Gem to have daytime
clients.

Mandy, I replied to your e-mail, without an error. My poor message probably sits there on
the server, unloved and unwanted...

Keith:Remember how Doyle was all upset about cops because they *don't* have a
license?(I think that hapened...)
Alll--Graffiti's working again!*wohoo!*

Mark--I got back in and reading/replying to your mail right now(Oh my god I forgot what
ID I put on the gurlmail mail....Vegeta's Worshipper Squad...I wrote that after 3 days of
watching nothing on tv but DBZ and Pokemon.:) )

------------------------------------------------------------

By A. Sinclaire, Moderator on Tuesday, December 28, 1999 - 10:48 am:

Oh and thanks Keith for the episode title.:)

------------------------------------------------------------

By Mark Morgan on Tuesday, December 28, 1999 - 10:57 am:

I wrote that after 3 days of watching nothing on tv but DBZ and Pokemon.:) Do that again,
and I'll take your television away. If you can't be responsible with it, it will be given to
someone who can. . . .

I hope nobody mentions the "no PI license" to Wolfram and Hart."

By John on Tuesday, December 28, 1999 - 07:03 pm:

They kiiled off doyle too soon. they at least coulda waited till leater in the season.

By A. SInclaire on Tuesday, December 28, 1999 - 08:30 pm:

Mark Morgan-Hey! Ash's cute! (Realizes this will probably have you gagging) Okay, so I
watched another show too, but it was mostly that. (About to watch DBZ:Tree of Might) I'm
addicted. So? I do watch other stuff too.:)

------------------------------------------------------------

By A. Sinclaire on Tuesday, December 28, 1999 - 08:30 pm:

I hope no one does mention non PI to them. Though it would be interestin.

------------------------------------------------------------

By Mark Morgan on Tuesday, December 28, 1999 - 08:48 pm:

Alright, Sinclaire, that's enough. Don't make me come over there. My nanobots know how
to deal with such foolishness.

For all that they have been set up as the baddies, Wolfram & Hart have been noticeably
absent. They seem just kind of stuck on, here.

------------------------------------------------------------

By Keith Alan Morgan on Wednesday, December 29, 1999 - 02:17 am:

Angel obviously can't have a license, yet.

According to my understanding of the California regulations, which are online, an
applicant for licensing must have a year's experience, minimum 2000 hours, then there's
the filing and confirmation period which may take between 180 - 325 days.

(Unfortunately, the regulations are incredibly vague & seem incomplete so I may have
interpreted them wrong.)

------------------------------------------------------------

By MarkN on Wednesday, December 29, 1999 - 07:24 am:

Doyle was killed off on purpose cuz Whedon thought it'd be cool to have a major tv
character killed off for a change.

I had a bit of a problem with vampires being able to walk around in daylight. As long as
they don't let the sun directly hit them they're ok? No, that can't be right, cuz if they're in
a room and there's sunlight coming thru the window but not right on a vampire then the
surrounding light bouncing off of the walls at least should still be strong enough to affect
vampires, if only to give them serious sunburns. That was especially true when Angel
fought that dude under the wharf before Angel got the gem. I was glad he got to walk
around in daylight with the gem, and thought he'd use it more often but then it had to be
destroyed, and then we learn he doesn't need it after all, or maybe past a certain point
he does.

By MarkN on Wednesday, December 29, 1999 - 07:25 am:

Then again, I do like different variations on vampires, too. Just read a bunch of different
vampire novels and see how much they differ and are similiar.

------------------------------------------------------------

By A. Sinclaire, NOT the Moderator of the Angel subtopic on Monday, January 3, 2000 - 01:59 pm:

Different variatons on vampires aer cool.

------------------------------------------------------------

By Mark Morgan who is not the darn moderator either, yet note: I am now on Monday, January 3, 2000 - 02:21 pm:

Just read a bunch of different vampire novels No, they interest me not. But I like this
show, so maybe the idea'll grow on me.

Sure it will.

What the heck is the point of rules around here, anyways? When Angel blew off the
sunlight rule in this episode, it ruined the only really good part of the first so-called
crossover. If he is as much a creature of the day as of the night, who protects those
alone in the dark?

Infuriating. But is does keep the show from descending into some kind of X-Files
permagloom.
By John on Wednesday, January 26, 2000 - 2:49 pm:

My sister thought that Wesley looked awfully silly when he tried to act cool. Didn't take him long to revert to his usual dorky self. When I saw him in that getup and realized who he was it reminded of that episode of the Nanny where Sheffield tried to recapture his youth.

By Electron on Wednesday, March 07, 2001 - 6:43 pm:

Wesley tried hard to look like the Terminator (with the crossbow instead of the shotgun) and he failed...

By Ed Jolley on Wednesday, March 14, 2001 - 1:44 am:

Isn't Wesley supposed to be English?
If so, he should have complained about his 'trousers', not his 'pants'.

By Callie Sullivan on Wednesday, March 14, 2001 - 3:21 am:

But it could be that the tightness of his trousers was making his pants chafe his ... legs ;-)

By Art Vandelay on Monday, August 20, 2001 - 6:24 am:

Nit, the mugs that Cordie examines at the start of the episode keep switching colour in different shots between blue and white.
