Airs Monday, October 1st.

Are there new "Powers that Be" since that old ones were killed (Thankfully, since I never really cared for their Greek-Statue routine) way back in Season 1? If so, for some reason they can't be reached the way the old ones could. Otherwise this whole episode doesn't really work on the same level.

Here is my nit The Host says William Shatner can sing. WILLIAM SHATNER CAN NOT SING!!!! Even he says he can't sing.

I don't think those were TPTB. If I remember correctly, they were simply oracles (hence the Greek look) for them.

Yet he still tries. Like the Host said, bad example (I was thinking horrible example, but it's close enough.)

I'm curious why the Real Estate lawyer said that he was having Angel cited for building code violations, included Asbestos and Earthquake proofing. To my knowledge, private residences aren't required to comply with those regulations. Since he's not running it as a hotel, but as a private residence, there is no reason for those codes to be valid.

Also, how did those exterminator guys get in? There was no sign of forced entry. Did they leave the door unlocked?

By MarkN on Wednesday, October 03, 2001 - 3:04 am:

I forget why they're in the hotel to begin with. I don't recall exactly, but that's in part cuz I don't often watch repeats. I recall that it was rundown and abandoned but even so how can they still afford it? And since it's so big why does Cordy live off the premises? They've got plenty of rooms for her to choose from. No doubt she'd take the presidential or honeymoon suites, or whichever's the biggest, if one of the others didn't already claim it. No one has, which also surprises me. Where does Angel "live"? In the basement? He always seems to be on the ground floor whenever he's inside the building.

Anyway, these first eps are pretty good and that new chick is sooo cute! Skinny as hell, but cute.

By Spornan on Wednesday, October 03, 2001 - 5:54 am:

Angel has, if I remember correctly oodles of cash hidden away. Also, in the flashback episode regarding the Hotel, he helped a woman who had robbed a bank. 50 years later, he found the money. Probably used it to buy the Hotel too.

Oh, and since the Hotel is not just a residence, but also a business, it may have to conform to those building codes. Are business places considered public?

Oh, and what's with Wesley's hair? The guy has permanent bed-head for most of the episode.

I think the Host was trying to be a bit
facetious when he said that about William Shatner
singing!:)

Gee,if Wolfram And Hart had the access to someone
who could screw around with Cordie's visions like
that, then how come they never did that BEFORE?

A Demon named Skip?!
Someone obviously was watching too many reruns
of Family Ties when they wrote that!

Ok,where exactly IS "Fred" staying?

By Mikey on Wednesday, October 03, 2001 - 7:12 pm:

Now that someone's mentioned the residence versus business with regards to the hotel...

I was curious about something brought up in the episode: Wesley calls the shop they visit a "public" place. While certainly it isn't a residence, it is not public in the sense that everyone is entitled to enter the premises. It's private property in the legal sense. So how exactly are public places defined in the vampire rulebook?

By Spornan on Wednesday, October 03, 2001 - 9:19 pm:

Vampires cannot enter anyone's home. Whether or not it's private property is beside the point. Angel couldn't enter Fred's room in his own Hotel because it was her home, for the moment. Also, if someone non-human is living there, he can enter.

Maybe. I, personally, see it as a home business, simliar to having an office in your garage. It doesn't mean that you have to meet the same building codes as a store or office building, does it?

Hi. I'm new to this show...I know who Darla is cuz of Buffy in re-runs on FX...But how in the world did she get pregnant?...I thought it was a general rule that vampires can't have children unless they create them...Maybe this will be answered, I don't know...That's my only question...

By Mikey on Friday, October 05, 2001 - 2:33 pm:

Last season, Darla was resurrected by Wolfram & Heart as a human. During this time she had sex with Angel. Presumably this is how she got pregnant (of course, she may have had sex with any number of other people, too).

So the real question is how can a vampire "seed" a woman in the conventional manner. But of course, Angel is a special case (having a soul).

Then again, I still wonder how Angel, whose blood doesn't pump, can manage to "get it up" in the first place. Unless he's permanently in that state, which may explain his moodiness.

By Josh M on Friday, October 05, 2001 - 10:42 pm:

I thought the scene they keep showing of the two of them in bed is the one after the episode where Angel gets the ring and goes to the "Home Office" (Reprise). I think that is the scene the creators are pointing to. In that ep, Darla was a vampire again.

I thought the whole Angel/Skip conversation before the fight was pretty good.

By Mikey on Monday, October 08, 2001 - 7:18 pm:

Josh M, you are right, of course.

When I initially found out Darla was pregnant, I wondered how it was possible since she was a vampire. My friend "corrected" me and told me they had slept together before her being bitten by Drusilla. He being the bigger Angel-phile, I accepted his word. And I just finished having a Jwb52z-style debate with him in which he dismissed two websites with episode synopses because he remembers different.

He's supposed to check his video tapes. I'm curious how he'll respond...

Well, Alexis Denisoff is sleeping with Alyson Hannigan now, so maybe that's got something to do with it. Or have they broken up?

Speaking of which, have you seen Matthew Patterson's pic? He looks a lot like Skippy. :)

Do not. :P

Hello, I started “lurking” in here recently, and this is my first post. Forgive me if this has been discussed before, but I noticed that ya’all were debating public vs private buildings, and inviting vampires into homes.

What’s the “rule” about that? The show seems to imply that a vampire cannot enter a HOME (or apartment, etc...) without an invitation (and once invited, can enter again any time unless an “uninvite” spell is used).

Lately this rule seems to be limited to residences - they can enter other buildings - but way back in the season 2 ep of “Buffy” titled “Passion”, there is a scene where the now-deceased Jenny is working on a computer in the school late at night. (Evil) Angel shows up, smiles wickedly, and says (I’m paraphrasing because I don’t remember the exact words) “there’s a plaque on the door that says ‘Enter all who seek knowledge’”. It seemed very clear (IMO) from that comment - and the way Angel said it (almost like an explanation) - that a vampire must be invited into ANY building... however, that plaque WAS the invitation that he needed to enter.

Rose, the short answer is "I dunno". It seems to me that it is a horribly subjective thing.

There's a discussion thread on this in the Kitchen Sink

How did Fred manage to escort Cordelia home? In the last episode she wouldn’t come out of her room; in this one she had to be coaxed out from under the table while sharing a meal with the boys in the reception area. I’m assuming that Cordy was in no state to drive home, so presumably must have either walked or taken a cab. Either of those should have been a terrifying experience for Fred but there’s no mention of it. She doesn’t suddenly get over her fear because when we next see her she’s hiding again at Cordy’s place.

And personally I think Wesley’s new curly hair is quite dreamy!
