Fredless

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Angel: Season Three: Fredless
Gotta love that penchant for weird-ass episode titles, don't ya? Airs Monday, October 22nd.

NNAN but I thought it odd that Cordelia would refer to Gunn & Wesley as "Mr. & Mrs. Bickerson". The Bickersons was an old time radio show, but I suppose she probably heard the phrase somewhere & started using it.

Loved the spoof of Buffy & Angel, especially Wesley's "I almost forgot to brood."

Felt the ending was kinda forced.
Producer: Okay, we need an excuse to explain why Fred is still on the show.
Writer: How about some kind of lame scene where she realizes something everyone else missed?
Producer: Perfect! Let's go with that!

I liked this ep but I was a bit disappointed when in one scene Fred's parents, alone, said to each other something about it's almost time, or whatever it was, so I expected them to actually have been demons disguised as humans and that were maybe waiting to take her back to Lorne's home dimension, but it was never followed up on so I just figured they were humans after all. When they were going with her in a cab to the airport I expected them to turn into something or other.

Great CGI bugs! But the man-in-a-bugsuit was way too obvious, though.

Of course they never did tell us what Buffy and Angel said to each other and i suspect they never will

I'm not a big fan of wise-cracking Angel. But I do like vain Angel... "You think I'm fat?" I also am appreciating how his character changes in his interactions with Fred, though she got increasingly on my nerves this episode. I thought she'd never shut up.

I saw the toaster line coming from a mile away.

And no, I don't think we will ever find out what happened between Buffy and Angel. Did they ever mention her name in this episode? On the premiere she's mentioned once. They worked really hard at not saying her name except for that one time. Makes me suspect that this is a network-enforced decision.

And did anyone catch the reference to "Alien Resurrection," the one Alien flick Joss wrote?

By MarkN on Thursday, October 25, 2001 - 1:49 am:

No, I missed that. Wished I'd seen it. Where was it mentioned?

About the only thing about her that really bugs me is that she's so cute but has almost no chest at all. A cute girl like that should have something decent but this chick doesn't. Yes, that's right, folks. I'm a breast man and proud of it.

Fred's mom mentions that Fred's dad likes the Alien films, although he fell alseep during that last one.

Also more of an industry wide nit than an episode nit. Spiro Agnew is said to have been a demon. Is it just me or does Hollywood like to cast Republican politicians as demons, aliens or other non-humans far more than Democratic politicians? (A politician is a politician is a politician. Regardless of political party.)

Spiro Agnew a Demon? At least pick someone intresting, or at least blantently evil.

This episode seemed way too much like Family from Buffy.
