Why didn't Cordelia still recognize Angel when she was under the spell? Supposedly, when the spell went haywire, Cordelia, Angel, Fred, Gunn, and Wesley reverted back to their 17-year-old personas, and each had the memories that each had at that age. In this case, Cordelia should have recognized Angel as Angel while she was under the spell. By age 17, Cordelia was a member of the Scoobies (from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer") and was already acquainted with Angel. Several things appear to confirm this. First, Cordelia celebrated a birthday in the "Angel" episode, "Birthday," which first aired January 14, 2002. Second, in the "Buffy" episode, "Consequences," which aired February 16, 1999, Faith tells Wesley that Cordelia is "jail bait" (i.e. under 18 years of age). Third, in the "Buffy" episode, "The Prom," which first aired May 11, 1999, Giles tells Wesley that Cordelia is 18 (years of age). These three things suggest that Cordelia would have had her 17th birthday in January or February 1998, give or take a couple of months. This would have been well into season two of "Buffy", by which time Cordelia had already met Angel, found out Buffy was The Slayer (and Giles her Watcher), and been integrated into the Scoobies. Given this, Cordelia also should not have been oblivious to Wesley's statement in this episode that he was a student at the Watcher's Academy in England. Cordelia, especially after seeing and recognizing Angel amongst the group, should have realized the significance of Wesley's background.

By the same note, Angel should have his Irish accent, not his American one. When he was 17 he'd never heard an American accent, so he shouldn't have been able to get stuck in one. Of course, having seen David's 'Irish' accent in other episodes...not complaining at its absence!
