We all know who Jack is, or rather, we don't. While books and such have been written about his possible identity in the 133 years since his crimes, no real evidence has turned up to say "The Ripper was definitely so-and-so." And it's unlikely anything ever will. Too much time has passed, evidence has been lost or destroyed (partly due to Mister Hitler and Mister Goering), and any witness is long dead.
However, what often gets overlooked are the poor woman the Ripper slaughtered. These women were just struggling to survive and did not deserve what happened to them.
The names of the canonical five* are:
Mary Ann Nicols: 43
Annie Chapman: 47
Elizabeth Stride: 44
Catherine Eddowes: 46
Mary Jane Kelly: 25
These women had loved ones that cared for them. They deserve to be remember just as much, if not more, than the monster who brutally took their lives.
*although other women murdered around that time were thought to be Ripper victims, it's these five that most experts agree were definitely his victims.
I hate two things - jack being more important to people than the women he killed and also how tv and films always cast women who are young and sexually appealing with no resemblance to the hard living prostitutes who bodies were ravaged by disease and alcohol that were the real life Ripper victims.
