Hearts of Stone

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Knight Rider: Season 1: Hearts of Stone
Hearts of Stone

There's a street war going on between the Stones and the Lagunas over arms shipments headed for the Mexican border. Father Carlos Laguna asks Devon and Michael to find a way to stop the bloodshed before more of his family is killed. Laguna's outside contact is a woman named Angie, who takes Michael to see the leaders of the Stones when Michael poses as an arms dealer. After Michael strikes a deal, Angie takes him to a secure location, but there's no one there. Angie pulls a gun on Michael and is able to escape by helicopter. Using KITT's information link, Michael gets to Angie's apartment and finds out that she stole the money to make a new life for herself - and her new love Roberto, a Laguna brother. Convincing Angie that she needs to help him stop the bloodshed, Michael takes her and heads back to the Stones to set up another deal. Unfortunately, one of Michael's alibi contacts tells the Stones that Michael isn't what he appears to be. Arriving at the site of the deal, Michael instead finds a gang battle between the two warring families. With Devon and the help of the local law enforcement, Michael and KITT are able to stop the war before it escalates. As the episode ends, Angie and Roberto are freed.

THOUGHTS:
-Pretty good episode. Everything flows nicely.

-Did the whole Angie/Roberto thing seem something like Romeo/Juliet?

-The first episode with the FLAG mobile unit.

-Fun stuff with the race at the end. Michael didn't even HAVE to turbo boost...he just wanted to show off!

-New features on KITT:
+A new voice modulator (three red bars)
+Tear gas

FAVORITE QUOTE:
"Bonnie, aye! Aye que chula!"
-KITT

NITS:
-Maybe not a nit, but KITT's new voice modulator is a variation of KARR's voice modulator from "Trust Doesn't Rust." KARR had a yellow voicemod with three bars, and the outside bars were reversed. KITT has a red voicemod with three bars, and they all match (with the outer ones smaller).

-KITT's left front side looks dented while entering the battlefield at the end of the episode.

-For all the talk about these special "NUNX-19" guns, they didn't seem too special at the end of the episode.

-The end sequence is missing the "One man can make a difference, Michael..." quote.
