Give Me Liberty...Or Give Me Death

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Knight Rider: Season 1: Give Me Liberty...Or Give Me Death
Give Me Liberty...Or Give Me Death

After an entrant in a race with fuel-efficient cars is killed in a crash, Devon sends Michael to the site of the upcoming race. "Alternative 2000" will feature several new cars using alternative fuel, in hopes of raising awareness to alternative fuels. As Michael signs up for the race, he meets Liberty Cox, a spunky news reporter. He also meets the head of Sellers Cable Company, which is sponsoring and exclusively covering the race. During the first leg of the race, one of the cars is shot at. The racing authorities find the gun in the room of an Arab driver, who is immediately arrested. Meanwhile, another man places a bomb in a car. The next day, during the second leg of the race, Liberty rides with two men who start getting rough with her. Michael and KITT get her out of that car, which explodes just seconds later. A camera crew is nearby. After a meeting where all the drivers agree to continue the final lap of the race, Liberty overhears Sellers and his associate as they discuss sabotaging the race to raise ratings. Liberty is kidnapped and will be blown up near the site of the next "accident." Meanwhile, Michael and KITT find out that all of the accidents have taken place near camera crews, and they soon find and save Liberty. After chasing and catching Sellers, Michael accepts the trophy for winning the race. The next day, while Liberty takes pictures for her magazine, Bonnie gets a call. The Arab's government have called for a disqualification to the race (since the gun was planted), which will have to be re-raced. Michael thinks about entering again...

THOUGHTS:
-Very nice episode. The title is a bad pun though (did Liberty Cox really have that much to do with the show?).

-New features on KITT:
+This is the first episode where KITT is mentioned to have a liquid-hydrogen powered fuel source
+Infared Tracking Scope
+Automatic Window Tinting

FAVORITE QUOTE:
KITT: "This is unnesseccary. The car of the future is already here. Me!"

NITS:
-In the first shot of KITT entering the FLAG semi, there are sparks on KITT's front bumper when KITT hits the ramp. HITS the ramp!

-Why does firing KITT's rocket boosters cause a turbo boost?

-KITT says Liberty is wearing a gag, but her lips are just taped.

Didja notice?

One of the competitors is a pair of rednecks in an orange Dodge Charger known as the Prince Brothers. Hmmm, I wonder what that could be a reference to?

I do remember seeing a promotional poster once for Knight Rider, which had KITT and an orange Charger on it. The caption read: "The competition is no competition." Obviously the producers wanted to lure people away from that other car show ;-)

Guys, here is a link to a picture of the poster.

Actually I was kinda wondering if that wasn't the
same car used in the Dukes of Hazzard for the General Lee except without the Confederate flag on top,or a similiar looking car of the same model.

Loved the ending when they find out that the race has to be rerun and Michael and Devon get into the argument over wheter or not Michael ought to reenter!:)

Orange charger, two hick drivers with the Stars & Bars emblazoned on their jackets? Don't tell me that isn't a Dukes reference.
