A Nice, Indecent Little Town

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Knight Rider: Season 1: A Nice, Indecent Little Town
A Nice, Indecent Little Town

At the beginning of the episode, Michael and KITT chase after a man suspected of dealing in counterfeit money, but lose him when he dumps it in front of some greedy townspeople. A few days later, Devon makes a speech at a little town called Alpine Crest, praising it's low crime rate. Michael sees the same counterfeit dealer at the ceremony, but loses him again. Soon, Michael decides to stay in town, because there is a chance the dealer (Ron Austin) is hiding out there. Michael meets a local reporter named Jobina Bruce, who is looking for a breakout story. Meanwhile, Austin is staying safe in a jail cell, apparently working with the sheriff, until Michael leaves town. Since Jobina took Michael's fingerprints off a glass and the people in Washington DC couldn't find any information on him, the local cops are on watch for him. Michael does leave town, but returns when he finds out there's a printing press in town. The press is supposedly in the business of making bibles, but Austin has turned it into a counterfeit money press. Michael runs into Austin again, but he gets away, and Michael is put in jail. It turns out that the man who bought the press from Jobina's aunt is helping Austin make the counterfeit money, so Jobina helps KITT bust Michael out of jail. Michael and Jobina chase the counterfeit dealers across the county line, where they are apprehended. The sheriff will be replaced, Jobina will have her story, and KITT is eager to hear more about this "bible story"...

THOUGHTS:
-Nice episode. I don't know about the title, though...

-Some great fun with Martha "driving" KITT around to confuse the cops!

-This episode's opener is only 10 minutes long, usually the length is around 15 minutes.

-This is the first episode with the "quick desert scene reprise" end sequence.

FAVORITE QUOTE:
Michael: "It's like this town is right out of the 50's. I keep expecting to see Wally and the Beaver walking around."
KITT: "Wally and the Beaver? That doesn't compute, Michael. Are they part of the counterfeit operation?"

NITS:
-When KITT engages auto-cruise at the beginning, look at the shot where the gas pedal goes down. It looks loose.

-Michael asks the sheriff to look out for Austin but doesn't leave the printout.

-The shot of KITT turning around to go back to town is from another episode (I can't remember which).

-When KITT turbo boosts over traffic during the chase of Austin, you can see the ramp used to make KITT jump.

-Why is KITT's window open when KITT is in the impound lot?

-How does KITT open the impound lot door?

-The ENTIRE sequence of KITT leaving the impound lot on auto-cruise, driving towards the jail, and breaking Michael out, comes from "Knight of the Phoenix, Part 1."

-When KITT turbo boosts with Martha, you can see the bottom of KITT is flat. When the guys used the hydraulic lift earlier, it had the usual car parts underneath.

-During the "quick desert scene reprise" end sequence, KITT's red scanner light seems a lot bigger and more rectangular than it should be. And of course it's too fast, but that's probably just for effect.
