General KR Nits

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Knight Rider: KITT-chen Sink: General KR Nits
-For most of both parts of "Knight of the Phoenix," the creators used a different model for KITT with an extended hood/thin scanner. The shots of the KITT we all know (with the rectangular protrusion on KITT's front bumper) are mixed in throughout the episode, mainly in part 2 during the demolition derby.

-Throughout the first season, in practically every episode KITT's hood pops open for a few shots. One way to tell is by looking at the headlights (big gap below them, where there should be none) or the red scanner light (big gap above it).

-After the first few episodes, KITT's seat belts/harness restraints disappear. I know KITT has a "passive lazer restraint system" starting in season 3, but none of the other people who ride in KITT find it strange there's no seat belts. Besides, shouldn't there be some anyway, to make KITT look more like a normal Trans-Am? By the way, in some shots you can see seat-belt harnesses off to the side of KITT's seats.

-Much of the time when KITT drives solo, there is either a big black box in the back seat or a brown lump behind the driver's seat(this was actually used to hide the stunt driver...in other shots, the car was just towed by an off-screen truck).

-Whenever a heavy action shot is needed (KITT getting hit by Goliath, driving near explosives, etc.), the creators used an unfinished Trans-Am rather than the shiny, black one used for KITT's normal shots. It's easy to spot, since KITT suddenly loses luster for no reason.

-In the opening title sequence, you can see the tracks in the dirt around KITT where the camera crew had to drive the car beforehand to get it into position.

-I still don't understand why KITT has a broken steering wheel, even if KITT can control the sensitivity of the turn.

-Much of the time when KITT makes a turbo boost, shots of the car show that the bottom is flat. The bottom is supposed to have the usual car parts underneath (this problem mainly occurs in the first two seasons).

-Most of the time when turbo boost is engaged KITT jumps, but a few times (early in the series) it just speeds KITT up.

-At the end of some turbo boosts it looks like KITT is heading straight for the ground (or at an angle towards the ground) but in the next shot KITT lands okay.

-Must of the time when KITT drives solo, KITT floors the accelerator pedal but then drives slowly.

-The FLAG semi is almost always going the wrong way that Michael wants to go when exiting in KITT.

-Early in the series, when exiting the semi, KITT hits the ground and sparks! Why can't they just stop the semi, or somehow make the ramp less steep?

-Michael often does a quick, tire-squealing turn with KITT for no reason.

-KITT's voicemod is right above the steering wheel but Michael usually looks towards the center of the dash.

-Sometimes when KITT gets shot at, there are little black nodules that appear on KITT's hood to simulate the bullets richcheting off the hood.

-In many episodes shots of KITT doing stuff come from other episodes (and in some episodes entire sequences are repeated!).

-The bad guys don't know KITT's tires are bulletproof yet they never try to puncture them! And how are the tires bulletproof when early shows like "Chariot of Gold" clearly show the label "GOODYEAR" and the tires make black marks on the ground when they squeal?

-In many episodes, the bad guys supposedly run an criminal gang/empire/whatever, yet they come at Michael with only a few goons.

-A few times when KITT's scanner is shown, it's stock footage. This is most apparent in shows where KITT is driving through a desert and is dusty, and suddenly the shot of the scanner shows KITT as totally clean.

-In many episodes KITT is given a new ability and just happens to use/need it later in the episode.

-In season 4, practically every time KITT enters SPM, the same shots are used. Also, many of the driving shots are reused over and over.

-Nobody finds it strange that Michael wears a black leather jacket in the hot California sun!

-After season 1, nobody ever calls KITT a pontiac again. From season 2 onwards, he is referred to as a "black t-top."

If you look carefully when KITT is operating solo
you can catch a glimpse of the stunt driver's profile through the glass.(I noticed this first while watching Team Knight Rider.)

Except for KITT's AI ability KITT and the Viper
car seem to have many of the same capabilites.

Knight Riders biggest screw-up is probably at the beginning of the 4th season. In the beginning of the series Devon Miles takes a ball peen hammer and rams the hood and nothing happens. Michael then says something about your'e going to destroy the finish/paint. Then Devon says no, the car is not painted black and that black is the color of the actuall body material itself-in addition to the fact that it's "indestructable". In the the beginning of the 4th season after the car is detroyed (yet again) when it is rebuilt the body is shown as grey and has to be painted black; oops ... This basically jumped the shark and ruined the continuity of the entire show !
