Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Knight Rider: Season 1: Short Notice
Short Notice

Near the town of Long Pine, Michael picks up a hitchhiker named Nicole Park. Nicole's ex-husband, Harold Turner, has just kidnapped their daughter, Natalie. Harold happens to be the leader of a motocycle gang which has ties to the criminal underworld, which makes him even more dangerous. One of his men attacks Michael and Nicole in their hotel room, and Michael kills the man in self-defense. Nicole disappears though, and Michael has to track her down to clear his name, or risk the incident will ruin everything the Foundation stands for. Michael finds Nicole at her father's home, and he sets up a deal with her - he'll help her get back her daughter if she testifies to the court in his name. Nicole has Michael trade a roll of film (that proves Harold is doing dirty business) in exchange for Natalie, but not before she breaks in and gets Natalie herself. Afraid for her daughter's life, Nicole takes Natalie to Arizona, but Michael soon follows and takes Natalie back to Long Pine. Harold sets up some phony detours, which lands the group in Calamity, California instead - an "old west" town. KITT takes Natalie ahead to Devon in Long Pine while Michael and Nicole take care of Harold and his goons.

THOUGHTS:
-Another nice episode, though I expected more of Harold's gang that just three thugs!

-Some cool shots of KITT turbo-boosting through the backdrop and then "standing off" with Tiny's car ("Tiny," gotta love that name for him!).

-Star Trek actress watch: Robin Curtis (as Nicole Park) played Saavik in the movies ST3:TSFS and ST4:TVH, as well as Talera in "Gambit, Parts 1&2" (TNG).

New feature on KITT:
+Not a new feature, but the turbo boost sound is different starting with this episode.

FAVORITE QUOTE:
"Yeah, the car talks, but like you and your father...it's complicated."
-Michael to Nicole.

NITS:
-The shot of KITT driving past a white fence early in the episode comes from "Just My Bill." Various stock shots of KITT driving and of KITT's scanner are used throughout the show.

-It looks like Michael hits auto-roof-left, but auto-roof-right engages to eject Tiny. Also, Michael never opened the sunroof beforehand (I guess KITT now does that automatically?).

-KITT is flat on the bottom during the first turbo boost.

-It's pretty clear that Michael doesn't punch Harold at the end of the episode. Harold just looks at Michael, then falls down!
