Best and Worst Episodes

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Knight Rider: KITT-chen Sink: Best and Worst Episodes
These are just my personal opinions:

BEST:
"Knight of the Phoenix" - A wonderful episode to open the KR saga. Some excellent moments, like when Michael first meets KITT and later when KITT starts himself up and escapes from the COMTRON building.

"Trust Doesn't Rust"/"KITT vs KARR" - If you could look past the corniness and plot oversights, these were just COOL episodes. Seeing the two cars turbo-boost over each other in TDR was great, and the legendary Peter Cullen as KARR hit the spot. Peter Frees in KVK was strange at first but fit KARR's more sinister personality well. KVK features a great "battle" between the two cars at the end.

"Race For Life" - There was no need for a diabolical bad guy or a complicated plot - it's just the way the characters were there for each other and worked together to try and save a little girl's life. Overall a great episode, with the themes of "family" and "being scared of what's unknown" played throughout. And you had to love KITT's show at the end for Becky.

(Two really funny moments in this episode:
-The first happened when Santos gained access to KITT...Michael just got in the passenger side, turned to Santos and said, "Hi! want some licorice?"
-The second happened at the end of the show and wasn't really intentionally funny. Now I know Becky was 10 and anyone who knew her would want to have fun with her, but at the end of the show Michael "zoomed" Julio around the hospital like he was the same age! I had a hard time believing Julio was younger than 20. Also, remember, this guy was a former gang member!)

"Junk Yard Dog":
-Michael appreciated Bonnie and let her know it.
-For the first time I could remember, KITT actually needed Michael and not the other way around.
-Michael trusted KITT enough to go out on the job, and vice versa.
-Michael told KITT about the muzzle flash and how KITT needed to face his own fears.
-Beautiful shots of KITT going into turbo boost, ski mode, etc.

There were a few nags, though.
-Devon was only there for one scene with an "injured back." You would think that once KITT was damaged, he would at least call Michael again.
-The scene with KITT in the acid pit (cheap effects).

"The Scent of Roses" - Great story with a mix of happiness and sadness, anger and regret, love and loss. The effects, the music and the ending were great. No need for turbo boosts or anything like that...in fact, though this episode didn't feel like a KR episode, it was still great to watch. Many people say that this should have been the last episode of the series, and I tend to agree (see the real "last episode" and you'll get what I mean). My favorite episode.

WORST:
"Soul Survivor" - A young computer geek somehow got control of KITT and later piloted the car with a joystick?! KITT's CPU put into a protable tv set? Ann Turkel's acting job as Adrian Margot? Just not a very believeable episode, although some of the banter between Michael and KITT ("How ya doin' down there, little guy?" "How ya doin' down there? You make me sound like a child.") saved the episode from being too bad. BTW, I thought Turkel's job in "Goliath Retuns, Parts 1 and 2" was much improved (though most of her lines were still weak).

"Mouth of the Snake, Parts 1 and 2" - Not enough Michael and KITT! Part 2 was especially bad since M/K didn't even do much until the last 15 minutes of the episode. I didn't even like David Dalton, and even if I did, he wasn't deserving of that much screen time (or his own sound effects or theme music!). They didn't even explain where his "special abilities" came from. I did like how Part 2 wrapped up all the plot points from Part 1 nicely, but that didn't save these episodes.

"Knight Song" - None of KITT's special abilities used. A plot taken almost directly from "The A-Team." Bad acting. Some uncute "cute moments." Too much singing and little worthwhile action.

"Voo Doo Knight" - Decent as a regular episode, but as the series finale? No way. And where was Bonnie?!

What episode was real good? Which one wasn't so good? List 'em here!

"K.I.T.T. VS. K.A.R.R" Was outstanding! It was so cool seeing a "clash of the titans" element in the series. The late Paul Frees did the voice of K.A.R.R. He was one of the BEST voice-over men in history (IMHO)
