Mouth of the Snake, Part 2

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Knight Rider: Season 2: Mouth of the Snake, Part 2
Mouth of the Snake, Part 2

Joanna spends some time with Eduardo O'Brien on his yacht and, using a mirror, finds out the combination to his yacht safe. That night, David breaks into the safe and finds stacks of money and secret documents for high-tech weapons. Matthews, on the other side of town, has found the bug David left in O'Brien's computer room. Meanwhile, Michael and KITT have tracked O'Brien's trailers to an abandoned mine shaft (the "mouth") which connects to an underground tunnel (the "snake," dug by the Mexican laborers) leading directly to an army weapons depot at Boca Culebra. O'Brien's high-tech weapons are actually stolen goods, and he's now planning to cash in by using the rockets he has already procured to break into the army depot. O'Brien also finds a piece of paper with the combination to his yacht safe in Joanna's apartment, so he kidnaps Joanna and David, but not before David transfers the Boca Culebra files from O'Brien's computer to KITT. O'Brien and his men attempt to take out the Boca Culebra base, but Michael, KITT and David reach him in time to stop his plan from succeeding. As the episode ends, Joanna gets a job as David's new partner.

THOUGHTS:
-The disappointing thing about this episode is that Michael and KITT barely show up until the last 15 minutes, meaning this was basically a David/Joanna story. The great thing is that part 1 was so involved and confusing, yet part 2 wraps up all the loose ends nicely. It's too bad we didn't have another episode or two with David, perhaps to flesh out his character more.

-Star Trek Actor Watch: George Murdock (as Archibald Henley) played Admiral Hansen in "The Best of Both Worlds" (TNG). He was also in the KR episode "Ring of Fire."

FAVORITE QUOTE:
Michael: "I gotta be in Denver tomorrow."
David: "Boss keeps ya jumping, huh?"
Michael: "Mine never leaves his desk."

NITS:
-For some reason every time David jumps there is a "6-Million Dollar Man" sound effect. What's more is that David got his own "theme" for this episode!

-When Michael drives KITT up to the mine opening at the beginning of the episode, you can see the camera's reflection of KITT's scanner just above KITT. This continues for a few more shots.

-Somehow David transfers O'Brien's secret codes to KITT just by pressing enter!

-Why couldn't KITT access the files himself?

-KITT gets a camera shot from the top of the bridge even though he's underneath it!

-KITT is flat on both turbo boosts in this episode.

-The "fade to credits" desert shot shakes for some reason at the end of the episode.

-So how DID David get those special abilities? Natural gifts, or something more?

I had the feeling throughout this two parter that they were trying to set David and Joanna up in some sort of spin-off that never occured.Kind of
what Roddenberry wanted to do with Gary Seven and
Roberta Lincoln in Assignment:Earth on Star Trek.
Perhaps IF Larson and co.HAD done a spin-off we would have had some of the questions posed answered, especially the what, where and how of
David's abilities.
