Halloween Knight

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Knight Rider: Season 3: Halloween Knight
Halloween Knight

As Bonnie begins unpacking her things in her new apartment a few days before Halloween, she apparently witnesses a murder outside performed by a man in a gorilla suit. Michael visits the apparent scene of the crime but finds an empty apartment. The thrower of a party that night, Denise, says she never saw a man in a gorilla suit, but Michael finds a tuft of hair from a gorilla suit caught on one of her doorknobs. On the way out, Michael is nearly hit by a pot, and when he goes to the apartment to check it out, he finds only Norman Baines, decorator for the lot. Edward Grant, owner of the building, ushers Michael out. Bonnie sees a dead woman in her bathtub, but again it disappears before Michael can arrive. Concerned, Michael believes Denise is playing tricks on Bonnie, but she wasn't lying - she only rented out a gorilla suit, and Baines had it cleaned for her before returning it. Michael is almost run over on the way back to Bonnie's, but although he is now suspicisous of Baines, he only finds Baines carving some pumpkins. Simon, Denise's friend, agrees to take Bonnie to a party at the Foundation, but Bonnie arrives home later to find her apartment ransacked and an apparent apparition in her bathroom. In fact, as Michael finds out, it is only a holographic projection, as was the murder of the woman and the body in the bathtub. KITT deciphers the voice of the hologram to find an address which happens to be the guest house of Edward Grant. Michael and Bonnie find the dead girl's body there - apparently Grant had her murdered when they were having an affair and she was caught stealing money from him. Bonnie's new apartment is the girl's old apartment, which holds a key to her safe deposit box and damning evidence evough to convict Grant of the crime. Also, Denise is Grant's daughter and Simon is his son and the murderer of the previous occupant. Simon actually murdered her because he was seeing his inheritance go to his father's mistress rather than to him. At the Foundation party, Simon tries to get the key from Bonnie, but Michael stops him, and after a short chase through a movie drive-in, catches him. As the episode ends, Bonnie's neighbors throw her a welcoming party.

THOUGHTS:
-During the first half of the episode I kept thinking it was going to be a terrible show, but luckily the last half of the show dissolved the previous half's corniness and actually came to a good and somewhat logical resolution. Still, although many series try out holiday-based episodes, I found the little tricks and such in this episode to be annoying more than anything else. Unfortunately, we're going to get another episode like this in season 4 (*sigh*).

Fun stuff throughout the show:
-"Ezmerelda" (Jean) and Lindu wanting to borrow KITT for a "Witches and Warlocks Ball"
-The "Psycho" theme played when Bonnie sees the girl in her bathtub.
-The "Psycho" house Michael and Bonnie investigate (actually a lot of "Psycho" references).
-Devon as Louis XIV, Michael as Bret Butler, Bonnie as Scarlett O'Hara, Baines as a pumpkinhead and Simon as a Cylon (nod to Glen Larson's other series, "Battlestar Galactica).

FAVORITE QUOTE:
"It's real gorilla hair, Michael. Real gorilla hair? We have to tell Bonnie to stop renting out of singles' apartments."
-KITT

NITS:
-When KITT drives to rescue Bonnie and Michael from the gassed house: As KITT says, "On my way, Michael," his voicemod doesn't light up.

-The first shot of the turbo boost through the movie screen is stock footage, so the sky is bright blue rather than pitch black.

-Simon must really be crazy. First he gives our heroes the code to the house with the evil hologram for no reason, then towards the end of the episode he attempts to hold Michael at bay with an obviously fake sword!

-There's some cute moments at the end when Jean walks by some flowers with a pot of...something...and the flowers start to wilt, but in reality I doubt flowers wilt that quickly due to a smell.
